    Right on brother.

Yeah, I've 100%ed Mario WiiU and I don't do that very often.

Yes it's conservative but people are being hyper critical of it because of the meagre portfolio on WiiU.

It's a perfect throwback, it's by far the best 'new' Mario Bros game and really compliments both Galaxy and Mario 3d.

Calling it mediocre is unfair and inaccurate. It's supremely polished, eminently replayable and a hell of a lot of fun.

The lack of pro pad support is unforgivable however and the lack of course editor is a massive wasted opportunity.

I'm really looking forward to the DLC, I'm hoping it's challenging. The star road levels were cunning.

I think its mediocre for a Mario game, from what ive played of it and, lets be honest, NSMB for the Wii was a blast, then it came out for the 3DS and then when it hit the Wii U it just looked like an HD level pack, for better or worse, with nothing new or exiting there.

Even a mediocre mario game is pretty good but I think people were expecting something a bit more from it, especially as a launch title.

Aye, I will agree that as a launch title it is underwhelming. It's the kind of game that would fit alongside a few big hitters, not the main event itself.

I still don't think it's a mediocre Mario game. It's the little details and tricks that make it for me. That little aerial spin move is a game changer for me at least, I don't remember it from past Mario games. His moveset is just that little bit more nuanced now.

Hopefully the level design in the DLC will utilise it to its fullest like 3d Mario does with the dive roll jump.

The challenge mode does but that feels a little too piecemeal.

I haven't played a lot of Mario in the last few years so maybe my re-established love has coloured my critqiue. I've 100%ed this, almost fully completed Mario 3d Land and then I'm going to move onto Galaxy 2.

NSMBU is definitely better than NSMBWii, and I enjoyed that one too.

    I-M-H-O etc.

The update takes half an hour and I've spent a fractin of the time on Wii updates compared to the PS3, a small fraction.
Additionally, no other console supplies a second controller.
    Pathetic.
No other console has a 100 controller either.

I posted the following in the Bargain's thread, so I thought I'd put it here too in case anyone is interested...

I was just about to post that Assassin's Creed 3 for the Wii U is 15.99 on Game.

@nickthegun Oops. My bad. It's 350. I've just added an extra 100 out of pure excitement there. 110 hours in december. 100 in January, and then around 70 - 80 each month afterward.

It's surprising. I feel like I don't get enough gaming in these days, but if I had my own way i'd probably never leave the TV. Thank god for work and relationships.

Yup. I'm always excited when I come into this thread. It makes me all giddy!

Edit Hey, so I got my math wrong. 350 is still a big number. It's about 300 more than my 360 has seen since christmas.

That's impressive. I have never managed more than 100 hours in a single game, let alone averaging above that in every game.
  • Deleted user 3 May 2013 13:13:10
That's not an average. That's just overall. A good 20 hours of that will be using the browser and at least another 20 hours will be Miiverse... Nintendo Land makes up 90 hours on it's own, and I managed 60+ with Assassin's Creed 3. ZombiU is nearly 20 hours. Sonic All-Star Racing is 40 hours. I could go on, but I know that nobody else cares.

    I'm still giddy, sorry!

I think I managed to stomach about 2 hours of Mario before realizing I'd played it before with slightly worse graphics a few years back.

Played Nintendo Land for about the same length of time...It's shockingly bad.

Lego City is good but I don't really bother with it.

I think I've played the Rayman app more than anything else.

Hold on, why exactly isn't New Super Mario Brothers allowed to be called mediocre?

There are definitely plenty of far more interesting side scrollers out there, if you accept there are better games available surely you must also accept the possibility that it's a mediocre product for some people?

@Cappy It's because it has "Mario" in the title. Rayman, Little Big Planet 2 and several other indie games I've played recently offer a superior, more innovative experience.
  • Deleted user 3 May 2013 13:34:30
I wouldn't say NSMBU was mediocre, but it's nothing amazing and nothing new. There's a simplicity to it, but it's very satisfying to play through. The multiplayer is great fun as well. I don't think it's any worse than Rayman Origins, although that game certainly is more charming.
  • Deleted user 3 May 2013 13:40:55
I didn't say awful. Mediocre isn't awful. I'm saying it's somewhere between mediocre and amazing, so perhaps just good. Not great, but good.

    Edit - Hope that helped!

To me, it's the very definition of a "paint it by numbers" game.

LBP looks fantastic but plays like crap.
  • Deleted user 3 May 2013 14:03:55
LBP is great with 3 other players, really is a joy to play. I quite like it SP as well, and really enjoyed making levels.

Rayman and Mario are by far the superior platformers in mechanics though.

The difference for me is, LBP is alot more varied and interesting. Not to mention the community levels etc.

The_Worst did kind of have a point. LBP is a great world let down by the spongey, floaty platforming.

I like the platforming in LBP.
