This Gen as jaded me a bit. The general quality of the games have gone up, i look at my ps3 games collections, think of the ones i traded in as well, and think how much money i spent. Plus with DLC and PSN games.|
But looking through them the general diversity is pretty poor. I think sid is right that the generational leap won't be as big this time round (i said that last time ha), and its this period in the ps3/360 Life where the gamers games come out, where developers have mastered the systems and can focus on gameplay and new ideas. I just want a big varied game library. If the wii U can supply UC3/GOW graphics but across a spectrum of different genres i be really happy.
The HD/non HD gap was huge, thats what killed the wii off, but i think i can see far more devs staying with how it is at the moment, just down to dev costs.
The next gen for me, FOR the first year and a half just means x amount of games of bold headed people shooting people in the face, packaged on the box from the waist up holding a gun in a siloutthed fashion. I think a lot of devs , except the big guns like crytek and dice etc don't want another gen.
Its interesting, the disparity between the ps1 and early ps2 titles seemed pretty big, you had a console, but brought knowing your pc could do bette things. This gen for a few years eroded that. It was almost on a par. Its now again i think pc gaming will rise again for a few years.
certain games don't really need a big next gen - third person adverntures are pretty nailed down, of course smoother frame rates and less glitches would be nice, i look at skyrim and BF3 and can imagine what a next gen can do for them. But atm its only a handful of titles.
Wii U have set out there path, still not convinced that MSOFT or Sony entirely know which whey they are going.
