Not for the first 2 years though, same as the 3DS for the first year.
More like 2 years for the 3DS as well, I only bought three games for it last year (Resi: Revelations, Kid Icarus, and NSMB2) which were all massive disappointments.

All the eurogamers who actually play with each other on xbl rather than just post pseudointellectual pc handwringing bollocks on the forums, love the shit out of biggy.

I'd rather have a sequel with the same visual style dialled up to the max, loads and loads of interesting islands to explore and a more direct navigation system.

    @Cappy

    Hence the adjective 'interesting'. ;-)

It's a separate debate altogether but most Japanese devs, with the exception of Nintendo, and a few others, really dropped the ball last gen. I don't think they anticipated the extra money and resources required to build games for 360/PS3.

They've finally caught up but now we're moving on again.

I find it a real shame that nothing truly exceptional came out of Sony Japan this gen.

So would I; but a simple tarting up of the resolution would get a big-hitter out with minimum effort and maximum fanfare.

I'm not a fan of HD reworkings in general but knowing what WW looks like on Dolphin I'd think there is definitely a market for it. WW on GC is also scarce as fuck these days.

I'd love either of those (too much to ask for both?). I can see them announcing the virtual console tomorrow with confirmation of Gamecube games coming though.

Wii U-centric Nintendo Direct tomorrow at 2pm.

New games to be revealed, apparently.
This'll either blow my theory out of the water or reinforce it.

I'm going to say they'll just focus on Pikmin 3, Wonderful 101 and Monster Hunter 3, maybe that Warioware sequel.

    Would love to be wrong.

In the tweet from Nintendo, it does specifically mention new games. Whether, as you've surmised, that means 'unannounced' games, is up for debate (until tomorrow).

I really like the thought that Nintendoland hides the secret to the forthcoming Wii U first-party release slate.

    That'll mean new:

    Zelda
    Mario
    Metroid
    Donkey Kong
    F-Zero
Pikmin (which we know is coming)

I'd be well happy with that in the next 18 months.
I would actually wet myself if this actually happened.

    Doubt it though.

Wii U Pilotwings I beg you. Reckon there is a good chance of an HD Wind Waker for Fall and something from Retro.

@luckyjim, I agree, some of the companies give the impression that they werent prepared at all for the move to high def, and the time money resources needed to create those assets, you can actually trace companies like Square Enix' slow turnaround, embracing western devs, publishing Eidos and making FFXIII a three part series, Im presuming to be able reuse assets/ engine and recoup the expense of developing it. I doubt outsourcing is as commonly used as it would be by western studios either, the 1000+ team on resident evil 6 springs to mind. But I'll gladly wait for Last Guardian, the slightly troubled development just shows how steep a learning curve this gen was to some teams, but for the innovation its generally worth the wait.

Hmmm, I really wouldn't get too excited. We might get a surprise or two, but I suspect chances are it'll be a recap of stuff we - i.e. the hardcore gamers - already know.

Given previous 'announcements' have included Wii Music and Wii Climbing a Pretend Wall, shall we wait and see if it's filler again?

LB, you really are a massive geek.

I hope they announce a big-budget game that isn't a remake or reusing Wii/Gamecube assets.

I want something to get excited about and a reason to buy a Wii U.

I'd like to see something ambitious. Really show off what a machine that's supposed to be more powerful than the PS3 can do.

Is it? Oh, ok. Not that it matters as i'm not bothered by Nintendo specs more their games but better than PS3? That would surprise me from Nintendo.

CPU might be shit, but the GPU is at least of a reasonably modern design.

Don't they say that the fashion these days is to load everything onto the GPU, and that we'll start seeing proportionally less powerful CPUs.

In what way does that statement suggest there won't be any releases announced this year?

They definitely don't have much to show right now, why else would they launch with a sidescroller rehash and a mini-game collection?
