    @ResidentKnievel and that affects ps3?
    Come on, it's always the same. The fact is, the engines are made on one console then ported, look at orange box! The ps3 could piss half life 2 but it was a disgrace.

    Those DF things are handy, but at the same time are just fodder for the trolls ;)
    It's a £300 console made in 2012, it should have no problem running ports better than the 360/PS3 versions despite it not being the lead platform.

    Digital Foundry's £300 PC, made with consumer parts, has no problem wiping the floor with the 360/PS3/Wii U when it comes to ports.
    Its not a £300 console and as no one in here as far as i know is a game developer no one knows if it should have any problems or not.

    Main reason is nobody knows how many resources were usef to optimise the engine

    Secondly the engine is optimised fir current gen cpu heavy consoles and the Wii U is gpu heavey with weaker cpu

    If this gen has shown anything is that ports lead on one console lead to issue however minor, why all of a sudden Wii U is differenti dont know. Its taken 7 years to get the games running as they are and still not solid frame rate wise but lets forget that

    Source engine was created on 360?

    what people fail to mention ”Is how bad PC ports of console games look” irrelevant to whether the PC was £300 or £3000.

    The only ports that come out ok are PC to 360 ones.

    @ResidentKnievel Correction, it's a £200 console with a 50 screen controller, and too big a profit margin from either Nintendo or retailers in the UK. Let's compare it fairly if we must do so.

    Also, wasn't Assassins Creed originally supposed to be a PS3 exclusive? Again, hardly indicative of a game made from the ground up for the 360 and "ported over".

    I didn't make the point in order to upset 360 owners.

    It's sold at a loss according to Nintendo, I take your point about it being cheaper than £300.

    Anyway, it's as if some people have forgotten that console generation leaps usually come with massive leaps in power, too. We're not seeing that with the Wii U.

    @Gambit1977 It wasn't particularly anti-360 in any way, just inaccurate.

    @ResidentKnievel good point.

    Though we should remember that Xbox cost about $525 to produce at launch versus approx $220 minus the screen for WiiU

    Key word being usually - it's certainly not mandatory. Nothing is, given the whole concept of having generations of consoles isn't really necessary.

    Have I missed the big hoo-haa about Nintendo restricting 18+ downloads/content viewing on eShop to between 11pm and 3am? It shit like this that makes me want to see Nintendo fail miserably.

    Also, generations of consoles tends to reflect the current strength of the developer right? What if there was too much technical console improvement in too short a period of time? And not enough companies were able to make back the development costs to go in the green from actually making a triple A game for a nextbox or PS4. Isn't the middle-ware already struggling as it is? Then you have companies like THQ putting out awesome games and still running into trouble, and that's just in this generation. Do they all change their business models, or do they all flock to the same monopolizing publishers?

    Just posing the question. I'll be the first to admit I don't know the answer.

    @Baleoce I realised playing Saint Row 3 that I don't think I'd played a ThQ game in about a decade or more.
  • Deleted user 7 December 2012 22:34:35
    Can't say I've ever played one, what do they publish?

    That darksiders thing?

    Yeah. I don't really find it hard to see why they're struggling.

    @CrispyXUK the ThQ humble bundle is a very good and cheap way to start. Metro 2033, saints row, darksiders, company of heroes

    @CrispyXUK not sure of the others but darksiders is meant to be great and saints row 3 is great fun. Given it was about £4 for the lot.

    I was watching Red Tube on the Wii U at 3pm this afternoon; I then changed the source to my TiVo box and Nick Jnr when someone knocked on the door.
