My guess is the OS update was security. They most likely hit Defcon five when the 'hack' article came out.

It fixes some crashes that people have been having and 5-10 min loading times on apps. I haven't encountered any of this but I am going to run the update in the foreground. Some people have been doing it in the background encountered something thats caused the console to crash and its bricking the console. This is probably a tiny number of people but there is no point taking the risk if it only takes 30 mins.

Anyone having problems signing into MiiVerse? Have downloaded all updates but when I sign in to miiverse it keeps hanging and stops me being able to access the Internet from any of my other devices.

I enjoyed this article. The title is somewhat provocative, and I'm sure a few people will take the bait, but the article in general pretty much sums up how I feel about the online and miiverse right now. Particularly liked the section on achievements. But different strokes for different folks. Either-way, read it first before blindly responding to the title.
Nice find, I agree with a lot of what they are saying. Nintendo really got the online experience spot on this time.

Miiverse is doing everything PSHome wanted to do, bring gamers together to chat about specific games in a fun way, but failed spectactularly at doing.

Yeah that second life thing was really awful and clunky. Good idea, but poorly implemented.

I am probably wrong but it seems to me that the word funk has replaced fuck, thats a good thing. I expect lots of difficult bosses being drawn with afros and sunglasses

I can't find the post in this thread, but I'd like to thank the person who mentioned Amazon is honoring the 199 price for cancelled orders in June. It took quite a lot of chats and e-mails, but I just ordered a Wii U Premium pack for that price. I was planning on waiting for a price drop before buying one, but this is as much of a price drop as I can expect :).

Can't wait for it to be delivered, time to look for some decent prices on Wii U games now.

After using the web browser on the gamepad some more, I must say it trumps another other device for web surfing outside of a laptop/pc. I can see my iPad becoming almost defunct.

Except when you're outside your house.

Why is everyone else saying it is actually a bit site for browsing? Had a quick play and it felt like using the ds. I.e absolute last resort browser.

Have to agree here, only issue with it is that erm... Facebook *ahem* doesn't work properly with it and you get a weird old school mobile version of the site with it. Other than that it's really speedy and responsive and has some really cool features! :D I love watching my mii on the screen entertain people whilst I look up something on the 'net :D

I've seen a lot of complaints about load speeds, I haven't experienced anything particularly bad. It takes about 10 seconds to load up Miiverse on my console, and about the same for the browser and other loaded software. It takes a little longer to load up the home screen when closing an application, about twice as long about 20 seconds at the most. The games take about 30-45 seconds top load up, the longest being Nintendo Land.

Does that sound the same for anyone else?

That sounds about right, although I do think it's not helped by the fact that it shows the splash screen as soon as you start the game - there is no little animation, or the screen dimming and coming back like on wii, so it seems like you are watching the loading screen for a long time even though it's not that bad.

And anyway, what's a few extra seconds to wait

Cool, I've read some comments about people waiting 2-3 minutes for games to load, but I've never experienced this my self. Maybe it's just a handful of people with faulty consoles or poor disc disciprine.

The things that annoy me are the 20/30 second loads to see notifications or a menu in the options that has barely anything more then text and a couple of yes/no buttons

That's happened to me a couple of times, but only during peak load hours. Not an excuse mind, I agree, it shouldn't happen and it is annoying. Hopefully Nintendo will get some better servers as time goes on. But historically, they've shunned the EU territory so I wouldn't get my hopes up too high.

I've never had to wait that long for anything from the menu. All apps load within 5 - 10 seconds. The only exceptions are Wii U chat and Nintendo Land, which can take 10 - 20 seconds, at the very most.

I will say that things seemed slower on day 1, but it's all fine and dandy for me now.

Are you referring to the game splash screens or an actually usable menu, because I find that the nintendo land splash screen will load in 5-10 seconds but the game takes a further 30-40 seconds to actually be usable.

I seem to get the splash screen for Nintendo land almost immediately but then 10-15 (maybe 20) seconds before the game loads.

@Razz careful! I've twice had 'disc not recognised' despite them being squeaky clean.
