I was hoping the trine 2 comparison would finally put an end to the 'weaker than 360' rubbish.
I don't think a side scroller is the sort of game to put such talk to rest.
It's a rather lovely looking one tbf.

@Sponz are you on dial up? Should cancel it and just play something mate, it will DL in the background

I just kicked it off as it's part of the initial setup wizard. I'm not on dial-up, but I think whatever server is hosting the update is using dial-up. I've got 100mb cable.

Didn't know that the U downloaded in the background.

@King_Edward The video looked pretty impressive, the fact it looks a lot better than 360 or PS3 is a good sign for the machine.

Given it's coming out a year after the PS3/360 version, I'd expect such a port to look a little better. And again, it's just a pretty side scroller.

Not knocking the Wii U at all here, just your argument.

@Syrette Not really given that other ports from far bigger developers have not had that same result. It's also the first game to be significantly improved on WiiU. As I said, it's a game that's light on CPU but the fact it clearly outperforms both other consoles in a way they could not replicate with any amount of development time is a step forward for seeing what WiiU is really capable of.

You don't know that they couldn't replicate it on other consoles. I know they said that, but they always say that if it's in their best interests.

@Razz I think Willem Dafoe is advertising the game in the US. I might be wrong though.

Edit: It has something to do with Jim Sterling the games journalist from Destuctoid.

I've sorted the overscan issue now. But does anyone else notice a considerable drop-off in audio quality when going into Wii mode? It's honestly quite bad.

@King_Edward Well apparently not given that the WiiU probably had less development time than the other two.

Whether WiiU can reproduce that kind of graphical difference on games that challenge the CPU more is yet to be seen though!!

Hoping for a wonderful 101 and pikmin3 release date tomorrow from Nintendo direct, hopefully revealed by some magical white gloves.

Is there a new firmware released? I downloaded the day one patch on Friday, I just opened the YouTube app and it is now downloading an update which is estimated at an hour...

Fuck Nintendo are turning into Sony!

    Apparently this is it
    Version 2.1.0 U

    Released: December 4, 2012

Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience.

The 3DS got a tiny update and both the eshops are down. Hopefully it will at least speed the OS up

It finished, doesn't seem to have changed anything. Was hoping for the OS to speed up at least

    Wii U Revolutionizes Social Gaming

I enjoyed this article. The title is somewhat provocative, and I'm sure a few people will take the bait, but the article in general pretty much sums up how I feel about the online and miiverse right now. Particularly liked the section on achievements. But different strokes for different folks. Either-way, read it first before blindly responding to the title.

Chances are that it exists to stop some of the system crashes that some users have been experiencing. There are a few games that hard freeze and it's believed to be linked to Miiverse and such, rather than being general faults with those particular games.

@Baleoce I fully agree with him on his views on the lack of an achievement system. Posting an in-game shot of something you feel is an achievement is far more satisfying than unlocking a pre-determined one. I know many people who 'farm' achievements and this kind of system would really benefit them.

I just want the framerate in games to be stable. I have batman, creed 3, zombiu and sega racing and the framerate in all four are all over the place.
The eshop has been down for me all night too, not that it matters because i only have 10.02p left in my wallet and the only thing i can afford is puddle. Sort it out Ninty.
  • Deleted user 5 December 2012 04:23:42
The eShop is down for maintenance. It's down on both consoles at the minute. I wonder if it has anything to do with tomorrows Nintendo Direct? Probably not.

Going back to these large patches... I've seemingly been quite lucky with how quickly i've downloaded these two patches. The first one took me just under half an hour, and the second has taken a little more than 20 minutes. It's still installing though, so perhaps I shouldn't speak to soon. :/
