    Hey guys, Me and my friends are finishing a game which will be released on Xbox Live Indie Games next month. It is called T.E.C. 3001 (Tesla Energy Collector) and it is third person, 3D action arcade game. You are guiding a robot through virtual space to collect energy for human kind. It will have 20 levels with many different obstacles. Itís easy to learn but hard to master, especially on latter levels where robot runs with great speed. Check out our gameplay video from the unfinished version and we will soon update topic with new videos. We need support and feedback so we can make it better so if you like it tell us something about it

    I wasn't expecting much, because most 3D games on XBLIG have a really rough look to them, but that's seriously impressive. If the gameplay matches up to the aesthetics you should have a hit on your hands there.

    Looks great. Not too fond of the slower running animation, but the level/art style is top.

    That looks fun - love the art style (the "themes" for the level colours is a really nice touch)

    Seriously, looks great. I am a manic Indie game purchaser, so you will get my download with that.

    Just make sure your dashboard graphic is noticeable, don't launch on the same day as some big demo, and have an easy mode (or some kind of unlimited restarts) so duffers like me can experience all 20 levels of goodness.

    Animation for the guy looks really poor. Obviously motion capturing is out of the question, but can't you improve on it? His leg running speed doesn't match his actual speed.

    The maximum price for an XBLIG title is 400msp, I don't think you need to worry there midnight_walker.

    Being nitpicky; that running animation is laughably poor, there are opensource animations that you could use, but the model doesn't have enough bones to use them. I have a guy free who would love to help out and is fucking amazing at modelling and animating if you want to give me a shout.

    Also it would be good for about 30 minutes, after which it would just be incredibly dull. Is there nothing more to it?

    Wow, colour me impressed.

    The only suggestion I can think of is to raise the camera very slightly, or perhaps move it so that it's more over the character's head. I'm sure you've tinkered with thsi already, but a couple of times in the demo you couldn't see what was coming up because the character was in the way - especially on the slide-obstacles later in the video.

    Could just be my dodgy old eyes, mind.

    It mainly needs some movement in the torso/pelvis, although there are other issues with the run that strikes me as the biggest.

    Still you should probably take up DB's offer, he might be as blunt and as a sledge hammer but he knows what he's on about :)

    Out of interest does anyone know what sort of percentage of the profits Microsoft give the developers of indie titles? Are they pretty good with indie developers or are they rippin off bastards?

    Approx 70%, which is a lot better than Arcade devs get, but obviously they (generally) get a lot more sales.

    Run animation is currently the biggest problem but it will be improved. Its being redone as we speak. We are all amateurs in art and drawing but good programmers.
    Yes, on fast levels it is harder to see whats coming at you, so it is based on trials and errors.
    The price will probably be about 3-4 dollars.
    Shadow will also be introduced before final version is released. If this version goes well, we are considering other platforms to. Firstly, it will be Windows Phone 7 because it was initially designed for it.
    Microsoft takes 30% of the price but they add taxes and other stuff. Also we are in unsupported country so that will cut off the money even more.

    You know what this reminds me of? The recent Sonic games (Unleashed etc). But fun.

    A bit of advice from one Indie Dev to another, don't charge 240pts for it, I know it's tempting and the game is probably worth it, but people are very reluctant to spend more than 80pts. I'm not saying they don't but in my experience charging anything other than 80pts has been a bad idea.

    Yeah, I agree with a low price. Never try to get greedy, it's the most counter-productive crock in the industry.

    Yup. If there's a 'Don't go for 240 points' petition I'd sign it.

    240 points takes it right out of the 'I've got a few spare points' impulse buy bracket. And I'd wager it would much more than half your sales.

    Also, can you have the option to swap the anitmated man for a static spacecraft? There aren't enough 'flying a spaceship fast' games.

    An option to mix it up a bit would be to have side scrolling sections that work a little like sonic, but with more parkour. IMHO the left right jump duck thing is a 5 minute wonder. Reminds me of an old Gremlin Graphics game called Trailblazer.

    The Rez influence is clear but no bad thing.
    If 60fps can be done it will make a big difference to this kind of game.

    Looks like something with a lot of potential, make sure you get the sideways movement physics right, that will be the key between fun and annoying. Plus the sense of reward/speed when you do well will be a big part of the fun.
