Thinking of selling off my kit to fund a S95 (or similar, if any of the experts can suggest an alternative.)

Love the camera but it's a bit of an "event" whenever I just want to take some shots of my girl. From what I can tell, a good quality compact will do most of the stuff I need and fit in my pocket.

Thinking of these sorts of prices, wanted to check if they seem reasonable before sticking it all on ebay:

Body+18-55 IS lens (crumpler bag and 4gb included) - 230
    50mm f1.8 mkII - 60
55-250 IS lens (used twice)- 120

If they all go then the S95 is mine and no more lens envy every time I see someone with an SLR!

Regrets selling 350D with lens for £130 on eBay :'( (granted, the LCD on the back was a bit 'gooey')

    Good kit that

Think about a Pen or a GF1 with pancake lens maybe? Just swapped my S90 for a cheap Pen E-P1 with 14-42 and I love the thing. Only paid 240 for it too.

Cheers Nth, would love to get something like that but I know the lens envy would start again.

Need to keep it simple I think. When we were looking at buying a flash unit I realised that I just can't afford to feed a DSLR-style habit any more. Too weak willed to trust myself with all those shinies out there ;)

The kit lens is quite slow on the EP-1 so may not be the best for photographing kids etc.

    That's why I suggested a pancake, the Panasonic 20mm is f1.7.

Well, the 55-250 sold nice and quickly anyway :)

Moving away from the S95 now, the Olympus XZ-1 looks pretty good in reviews, especially considering putting that lens in a compact. Anyone had a chance to use one?

    Bah, I knew I would crack. Ended up getting a E-PL1 with a Panasonic 20mm 1.7 pancake.

    I blame Nth.

It's a lovely lens, although I'm starting to think it needs a zoom to compliment it...

    Who me? ;)

henro - the Pana 14-45 seems to get good reviews and is apparently a little better than the Oly 14-42, which I'm pleased with.

Yeah, I remember you saying - I'm keeping an eye out for one but I've been splashing the cash a bit much the last few weeks :-(

My Oly was 89, the Pana seemed to be selling for about 25% more on average. I'd have already bought the pancake by now if it wasn't for me needing to get my 50mm repaired.

Was considering a zoom too but didn't want the 14-42 as it seemed similar to my old 18-55, which I never used after getting the 50mm prime.

Do want a zoom of some sort though and hopefully will have enough funds to get the panasonic 45-200.

Incidentally, 350 is a good price for the e-pl1 and the 20mm lens isn't it? (buyers remorse setting in :))

Sounds pretty good, I paid 400 for a GF1 with the 20mm and the lens on its own seems to go for 225-250+ on ebay that I've seen.

Pana 20 can sell for over 300 ATM due to shortages.

Yeah, looks like I did get a bit of a deal there. Happy (less guilty anyway) camper again.

Rather than getting a new zoom, was considering an adapter and an old nikon 105mm f2.5 prime. Could be a really nice combo with the focus zoom on the e-pl1. I'll admit I got the idea from a digitalrev piece where they used manual leica glass on new micro 4/3 bodies.
