    64 bit, Win7.

    That was the first thing my friend asked me over Skype. I've gotten to the point where i'm about to turn off my machine, take a stick of RAM out, boot it up ect and see what it detects again.

    Edit* Pulled out one of my sticks and it gave me half of the 4.0gb I originally thought I had. My friend seemed to think the folks who built my Pc had split RAM sticks so basically it was wrongly labelled RAM sticks that got my hopes up.

    Bit the Alpha bullet, first impressions are good!

    Runs a charm on an i5 38k, 16gb, 570.

    I get the feeling I'm really going to enjoy this, if I can find a server that's not populated with idiots. Last server I gave up on everyone was just running out into a field and team killing. Odd.

    Runs lovely and smooth, looks great and...fucking finally...the movement and controls are so much better. Nice balance between simulation and standard FPS.

    I'm still getting picked off by people with ironsighted assault rifles from about 500m away, so that hasn't changed.

    A great person to follow on youtube for all things ArmA is CHKilroy, he's pretty much compulsory viewing.



    Also good is his 2011 in review vid.

    Oh, and of course the Napoleonic BAB stuff, this team building vid is pretty much one of the greatest things on youtube.

    Your problem is you've probably got a 32bit motherboard, it doesn't matter what version of windows you're running, the board's northbridge can only process 4gb and one of those gb is going to be the video ram.

    So I've been tweaking my settings all morning and it doesn't seem to matter if I whack it up to ultra or low low low.

    I'm definitely bottlenecking at my CPU. Got an i5 2.6ghz 750

    I could OC it but I'm not sure how much it would help. Any i7 CPU/Mobo combo recommendations happily accepted.

    i7's not all that much cop considering the extra cost, suggest i5 3750k (for overclocking) and any decent Z77 motherboard (e.g. Gigabyte Z77-D3H).

    Could overclock the current cpu depending on your cooling setup, I used to have my old i5 750 @ 3.6, but though it would make a difference, I doubt it'd be enough to really push A3 into 'decent' frames.

    I'm so happy for Bohemia, I think they've finally made the game we've all dreamed of playing since Op Flashpoint.

    I'm not surely it's entirely Alpha to be honest, I've done a bitta QA and this is what some people would pass as beta. I've had a few OOM crashes and it's smashing my CPU to pieces but I reckon once I give my radiators a clean and OC my CPU I might hit 40fps which would be enough for now.

    It's typically ARMA though, you can tweak the graphics settings all you like, it all comes down to CPU, RAM and having a decent motherboard with the power to keep it all stable. It's a machine killer and an obvious candidate for benchmarking.

    Wasteland was first out of the gate but I wouldn't be surprised to see a community build of DayZ (and the rest) find it's way onto the pre-release. Mod's will encourage the transition and one day I'll just find myself not playing ARMA 2 any more.

    ARMA 3 can come out whenever it likes now, it's like when you really want to see a girl naked, you don't care if it progresses into a relationship, you just want to see nipples.

    What is it with those nipples? It's totally binary - if you haven't seen nipples all you've really seen is cleavage. Which is nice, but not really boobs. So irrelevant, really.

    Anyway - ARMA 3. Looks great.

    Photorealistic, too. Cutting-edge jiggle requires PhysX, though.

    I tried changing the settings to ultra (except for AA) to see what would happen on my 5870. It ran surprisingly smooth. Not 60fps, but consoles would still be jealous. I suggest you all do the same, just to try it out.

    @Dirtbox I believe my motherboard supports up to 16gb of RAM! I'm gonna get hold of a shitload of corsair 1600mhz DDR3 and cram it all in and see if that works.

    One thing I will say is many of the sliders have little or no effect on the performance of the game, draw distance is the big system killer, tweak around it and you'll get the best balance of graphical quality and FPS.

    It's still not fully optimsed yet which is why people are having trouble. 800 max when the game is fully released would run the game on ultra.
