Registered 11 months agoVVVVVV is EXCELLENT. Picked up Mutant Mudds too the other day and it isn't bad and I think the eurogamer 7/10 is about right. Bit on the pricey side though.
Sakura Samurai needs to come out now -

Registered 4 years agoJumped in and bought Art of Balance Touch. I never really made much use of Wiiware, but it's nice to be able to get it on the 3DS, which i'm making much more use of at the minute. Eyeing up Mighty Switch Force whilst it's on offer. That and Dillon's Rolling Western too.3DS: 4210 4002 8289 (Dave)

I thought it was already, but apparently it goes up on the 28th. It has the extra content and the revised 3D going free which is a nice bonus.

What's that, then? Might pick it up when it goes on sale.

Picked up Pullblox over the weekend, it's great. Would probably get both VVVVVV and Mutant Mudds too, if they weren't so steep. I think that's all the great eShop games covered.

Registered 7 years agoI bought Pullbox thanks to the sale - not a huge amount off, but enough to nudge me over the edge. It really is quite good, isn't it? I almost feel bad for not having bought it at full price. Almost

Registered 6 years agoDemo of mutant mudds on eShop - is this the first eShop title to get a demo? It's a good idea, like xbox marketplace, try before you buy, I'm 10X more likely to buy something if I've tried it first, rather than spending best part off £10 going by just a description. -
It should have been mandatory that all eShop titles have a trial but yes, welcome for those titles which do, along with demos of physical titles. Square Enix have done well to get their demos out before release.

Registered 4 years agoThe demo of Mutant Mudds is pretty sweet, does a good job of explaining everything through the first two minutes of play. Can see myself picking it up, so it's achieved it's objective!
I downloaded Castlevania Adventure too, which I quite enjoyed when it first came out. Bloody hell, it's hard, with an infuriatingly slow character, fixed jump arcs, pixel-perfect jumps, enemy placement designed to annoy, and only 4 levels that are a bit too long each. It is chained to the mechanics of the originals, but doesn't even give you the variety of sub-weapons to play with. You only have a whip upgrade or two (lost when you take damage), hearts that restore health, the cross just gives you a few seconds invulnerability, and points that turn into extra lives (although I can't see you being able to get more than 2 or 3 extra lives over the entire game). Also, the terrain-there are no stairs or anything, it's just walking across screens of concrete blocks of various heights.
Other games such as Bionic Commando, Megaman and Super Mario land wipe the floor with it in terms of variety and what the character is capable of doing. I realise it's partly intentional- like Resident Evil, it offers challenge by giving you a severely limited and slow character with a relatively poor weapon, but it just hasn't aged very well compared to other GB games in my opinion. The repetitiveness of the enemies, the levels, only having one attack, and the slow sprite that leaps back in agony from each hit just make it a bit of a chore.
While several of my complaints above could be applied to the NES castlevania games too, they were much, much deeper in terms of level design, enemies and attack options.
All in all, I'd put it at the back of my list of GB recommendations so far. -

Registered 7 years agoWell it seems a bit useless so far. I had lots of Play Coins, so purchased every one there was. Now I've got a partially finished collection and I'm certainly not getting anything through SpotPass, so it'll probably stay that way forever.
There is a Nintendo Zone point close to me, but I doubt very much that will fill up the whole collection magically.Kirby is the man! Even if he wasn't, he'd just ingest and become one.

Prepare for disapointment. There's a few new Theatrhythm tracks, but besides that it's looking like a disappointing week. They could have chucked in a nice VC game for us, but thought we were being spoilt this week.

There's a new video series that's going up for sale, The Incredible Barbazan, but I don't know anything about it or anyone that cares. Might snoop around and see what its about.3DS: 4210 4002 8289 (Dave)

Yes, I suspect this will be the case for most M&S installaions. Speaking of Play Coins, I wonder if there'll be any Play Coin secrets hidden within NSMB2?

Maybe a level shaped like a coin, that sort of thing. Or a Play Coin collection multiplier that lasts a day. Or a limited edition 3DS shaped like a Play Coin.
Hopefully crazy adorable Miyamoto will convince Takashi Tezuka to dress up as a gigantic Play Coin for TGS.ツ

Registered 4 years agoDid anybody else download Art of Balance TOUCH! then? I'm finding it a lot harder than I imagined. I breezed through the opening 3 worlds, but thing really do pick up after that. I have had to skip a level or two in worlds 4 & 5 because I just can't figure them out.
I'm not a fan of the multiple sinking/raising platforms in world 4. They seem to spazz out quite a lot, being unsure of whether or not they're meant to be evenly balanced, randomly launching your blocks into the air. I've even encountered a glitch in which they became fixed in a particular position, regardless of how unbalanced the two platforms were.
Regardless of that issue, it's still a great game and I strongly recommend it to anybody wanting some variety in their collection.3DS: 4210 4002 8289 (Dave)

Registered 4 years agoI saw that Japan is getting the original NES Megaman on their 3DS VC.
Some of the same bosses as the GB one, but even more bastard-hard, and the levels are almost completely different, with much more open areas and more variety in enemies.
What is interesting is that the NES games give you more room to move around on screen, and so there are more platforming puzzles, and megaman can jump 3 'squares' (1 and a half times his own height). On the GB games, he can only jump 2 squares (his own height).
It also means that, in the NES games, you have more room to manouvre in the boss rooms, where as their movement patterns are bastardised to fit the much smaller (in comparison to the sprites) boss rooms in the GB games. This means that it's impossible to jump over bosses on the GB, making some of the bosses frustrating as they keep running into you, but you can dodge (and also do more damage with the cannon and the weapons they are weak against) in the NES games.
Anyway (clearly) I like the 8-bit Megaman games, and am looking forward to playing Megaman NES on the move. They all age fairly well too due to the tight mechanics, and, seeing as I don't think MM NES even had a password system, the save state should help people gradually chip away at it. It's old school in it's difficulty though, no training level like the X games, just an initial six stages that require good platforming skills and pattern recognition almost immediately!

I've currently put my VC shopping on hold. I've got games on both my Wii and 3DS, but I don't really fancy having to buy games twice over just for portability. Especially when the Wii U will allow me to play without hogging the tv.
I know Nintendo have said that Wii VC games will be transferable to the Wii U, but they've also said that our 3DS and Wii U eShop accounts will be linked together. I'm waiting to hear whether that means I can swap games between all 3 systems, which would be brilliant.
None of this stopped my buying Punch Out!! though, so I can actually see myself paying for some games twice over.
