    Cool, ta for that.

I was going to pick it up, but seeing as I've already shelled out for the Wii version as well as the NES cart many, many years ago it's kind of overkill!

Does it come with the usual save-state functions etc?

Yup. The save state function is there. I've not used it though. I want to be hardcore and beat the game in one go lol.

It's a good sign though. I've been looking forward to playing a full-speed Castlevania for some time now. Just for the music!

On a change of topic, NintendoLife have given NightSky a perfect 10/10. I've been looking forward to this one for ages. Can't wait much longer!

Out in Europe in November. :)

Art of Balance is reduced this week to 4.50 it got good reviews and from the little I played today it seems like a good puzzle game well suited for short bursts. Its well presented and has a lot of levels

It's a good game, but I don't rate it quite as highly as most. It's a unique concept and you'll probably not own anything quite like it, but I didn't like all the ideas in this game. It does have a ton of levels though, and for it's current price, it's definitely worthy of investment.

Gameboy Colour cult classic gets 3DSWare sequel.

I've still not played Shantae myself, and the price tag on the eShop isn't too appealing, but I know it's held in high regard and many will welcome the news.

I did confuse the two games there, but yeah, it's technically a sequel to the DSiWare game, not the GBC one.

Not a bad week for the eShop. On the 15th we're getting Fallblox, Ninja Gaiden (NES) and a demo of Virtues Last Reward. Will probably be skipping Ninja Gaiden though. I managed to complete it a few years back and I have no intention of ever touching it again.

Edit - Apparently Magical Whip on DSiWare is a long overdue gem. Hadn't heard of it until now though!

Rejoice gamers, for lo, Crimson Shroud has been released unto thee. Bask in the goodness of the great gaming god Matsuno, go and sin no more, for the Crimson Shroud shall bring light to your lives such as no downloadable RPG ever has before.

I've got my eye on it, but I need to finish Kid Icarus first. I can't believe i've almost worked my way through my 3DS backlog and i've not yet played a proper RPG!

The 3DS has probably had a better line up in the run up to christmas on the eShop then it has had at retail:

Crimson Shroud and Aero Porter both got 8/10s from Eurogamer,
Fallblox is great although I probably prefer Pullblox,
Fluidity/Hydroadventure and Escape Vektor (which comes out thursday) are either sequels or remakes of two of the highest rated Wiiware games
and this game Gunman Clive also out on Thursday has a nice art style:

I downloaded Crimson Shroud last night- fantastic stuff. Reminds me of playing pen-and-paper games, or the fighting fantasy gamebooks.

The narration in the style of a GM is a really nice touch, it's got decent combat, combo and loot upgrade systems, well worth 7 if you feel the need to dungeon-crawl with a box of randomly-shaped dice!

Do it Raiko, the translation work is pretty good, it captures that 80s fantasy vibe quite well! :-)

It has a very sloooooooooooooooooooow start. Took me a while to get into it but it certainly is a lush little game.

I've just been playing Gunman Clive (out today) and really enjoyed it for under 2 quid. it's like a cross between Megaman and Super Meat Boy in that it's fairly basic jumping and shooting, but with instant restarts when you die. Checkpointing can put you back about a minute or so, but the main campaign can be beaten in under an hour.

It has a nice art style, some really chilled out western-themed music and, on completion, you get a mode where you can play through as an enemy character, as well as the hero, heroine and a chapter select. It also records which stages you have beaten without being hit.

I like platformers like this- a couple of rooms later on are tough, but because you restart instantly it's good fun. Definitely worth 1.99 to play with a d-pad and buttons rather than touch controls.

Finally got round to getting a 3ds. Any reason why my ds says that cave story is not avaliable in the eshop? I always thought it was.

Question for people who've bought Crimson Shroud -

Is it as great as the EG and Edge reviews make out, and is it worth the money? What's the rough playtime?

If you have ever liked tabletop RPGs, with maps and miniatures and dice, yes, it's awesome. It requires the same level of imagination to enjoy really- the anticipation of the dice rolling across the screen etc, and the narration telling the story as the static miniatures stand around.

Script is good, the characters neatly defined, it's a simple dungeon crawl with some good humour and a reasonable plot. Music is good too, and the battle engine has the same kind of depth as a tabletop game too- gradually you learn the combo system, which does more damage, which gives you bonus dice than you can add to your 'to hit' and 'damage' rolls. The stats and percentages are viewable on screen, so it looks complex but all the information is available so you can spend each dice wisely. There's a light crafting system where you can merge identical items to make them stronger too.

Rough play time is only 6 hours, but New game+ is worth a look.

All in all, it's probably my favourite eshop game now, just for the tabletop vibe. I wish more games captured that ethos as well as Crimson Shroud.

@el_pollo_diablo I read this post again the other day and realised it's now utter crap. It's release is being handled by the same folk who published VVVVVV and Cave Story on the 3DS, which may mean we'll see it November 2013 if we're lucky. :(

@steve1979 Europe never got the DSiWare version of Cave Story and we've yet to get the 3D Download version either. There is, however, a Cave Story 3D retail release. It's quite expensive now and hard to get hold of. It has completely reworked visuals which put off many and it lacks some of the extras found in the download version. We were promised it before Christmas, but that just isn't happening any more.

@PazJohnMitch I haven't picked up anything from the 3DS store since they released the GameGear games on virtual console, or brought any 3DS games since Kid Icarus but I'm very tempted with Chrimson Shroud.

It is great. Played it all of yesterday. It has been a very long time since I did that with any game.

9/10 for me. Loved it. Best 3DS game that does not have Ocarina in its title.

Picked up Gunman Clive yesterday. It's an essential buy for 2.

Also took a punt on EscapeVektor, but Clive has me hooked so far.
