So the 3DS eShop is coming out "late May"
This thread is to discuss it, what to expect and updates in the future.

Heres a little video of what it will look like
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I2erYxbGhkM&feature=related

You can see here its a lot better then the wii shopping channel in that you can search easier, watch videos, look at screenshots, download demos and read/write user reviews.

Details of what is actually out for the eShop launch are not confirmed but this is some of what to expect.

    Internet Browser

Nintendo went with Netfront instead of Opera this time. Not much info yet but apparently you can use it whilst still in game via the home menu

    3D Classics/Virtual Console

Right now the games we know about are:
Excitebike (nes), this is updated in 3D and is going to be free in japan and hopefully europe with the may update

    Zelda: Links Awakening
    Super Mario Land

I am not sure if these will be in 3D or not.
On the virtual console you can expect games from the game boy, game gear and turbografix
There was a video from an E3 or TGS that had a number of different titles shown such as the original metroid but I cant find it right now.

    3DSware

Games specifically made for digital distribution on the 3ds
Not much announced yet except Megaman Legends 3: Prototype
This should be out with the may update

I think a new version of flipnote studio might be on its way later

    DSiware

Every DSiWare title will be available on the 3DS eShop at launch and anyone with a DSi can transfer all there purchases to the 3DS.
I missed out on the DSi so I am not an expert at all on this but there are some great games and some creative things as well
Flipnote studio (animate flip books and share online)
    Rytmik (for making music)
Even something that lets you program in BASIC

The best place to look at what is available could be http://dsiware.nintendolife.com/ as I think they have reviewed every DSiWare game released so far.

If people who used DSiWare would like to recommend some of the games they played that would be appreciated.

I loved Super Mario Land and could run through it with my eyes closed at one point in my life. Probably not any more though :(

Super Mario Land was good fun. Really liked Link's Awakening back on the Gameboy too. Its actually Link's Awakening DX that's due out on the 3DS store. The Gameboy Color version.

The versions of Mario and zelda I played were in 2d, looked like the originals with no frills (can't even remember if the bottom screen had anything remotly interesting)

Both those games are rad though, so maybe I'll grab them, if just for the mario sub/plane stages

Fun fact, Link's Awakening DX and Twilight Princess are the only Zelda games I've ever finished.

It's sad to think that Mario Land is almost over looked, it's fucking brilliant.

Game Gear Shinobis are apparently release date title too

Super Mario Land will be a nice nostalgia trip for me. Must be more then 16 years since I played it but I can still recall the sound of those bees dying. I enjoyed it a lot back then

Yup, the DX version was my first venture into the GB colour. Loved it, cracking choons as well. I can hear the beach now!

Give yourself 5 or gig, you're worth it.

Interesting service. I'll be raiding this when I finally get a 3DS (2012 probably) :(

Just guessing, but isn't the Game Gear Shinobi the same as the Master System Version? If so, it has the same level design as the original Arcade version. Just different visuals.

Despite being terrible at it, I love Super Mario Land. Still play it now PSP (emulation, obviously.). If priced I might buy it. If they take the piss I'll stick with emulation.

Is it bad that I'm thinking of getting a 3DS just to play Mario Land and Links Awakening?

Not really interested in anything else till Mario Kart and Mario 3DS.

i may pick up SML... just to play through those amazing submarine levels again. I can still remember all the secret blocks to get up to the top shelf to the coins in that temple level with the lion boss! i don't think i ever completed it though, my 10 year old self probably wasn't capable of it.

I remember running downstairs, at nearly midnight, to tell my mum I had finally completed Super Mario Land. I was only 6 at the time and was meant to have been asleep already. Fortunately she was actually quite impressed.

SML is brilliant. I used to be able to complete it in under 20 minutes, it only had 12 levels or so. Can't believe that is 22 years ago now. Bags of character compared to the sequel and the Wario games anyway.

So, Link's Awakening DX then. Come on, release LTTP for it as well and we'll have the 3 best Zeldas on one system :-)

I don't think I ever completed it tbh.

There was an interview with Miyamoto today and he said Nintendo will not restrict other developers with games on the eshop. Not sure if this means file size (as that was a problem with Wiiware) or more adult content but it's probably good thing.

Truth. I adore Links Awakening, absolute belter - great on whatever you play it on. A completely immediate purchase for me when it goes live.

Shinobi... mmm... I remember it. I remember liking the games too... but it's been many many years... might take a punt to see how they are though.

Master of Tekisuto No Kabe. *bows*
    And you're reading this why?!

Afterall, she did witness me completing the original Zelda at 4 years old. I guess that was the peak of my childhood achievements...
