Yup - you're pretty much in the tutorial at that point.

When you're out in the wild, battling multiple bandits and a cyclops comes stomping along, you'll know about it :) Especially if it's at night!

I assume you cannot lose that Hydra fight. I didn't cause it a lot of trouble, certainly wasn't directly responsible for its head coming off, but everyone was busy congratulating me so I wasn't about to argue either :)

Hey Rajin, nice to see you're enjoying the game! Apologies if I've misunderstood what you meant in that quote above but what you appear to have described is a 'Mystic Knight'. Just so you know, pawns can't actually access the 'Mystic Knight' occupation. This occupation is specialised and only available to your main character, so ultimately a 'warrior pawn with magic attributes' is out of the question!

If you like your pawn as a fighter then it's better to focus on them being good offensive attackers or defensive tanks! Again, apologies if I've completely misread what you meant ;)!

Heh, you guys are in for a big shock if you bump into old 'stumpy' again later in the game and maybe something even worse, but that's all I'm saying :p

Why does it have the original game in the 'Frequently bought together' section?!

I most probably will, if I can make time for it. My list of excellent games which I bought on sale and haven't played much due to a day not having 72 hours is only getting longer though.

    @Rodriguez

You understood what i tried to say, to bad that they locked out both of those vocations. I changed her into a warrior with a offensive tank in mind.

How useful are the bonuses for having played the original version with Dark Arisen?

I've got an unopened copy of the original I'm going to sell but I don't know if I should have a quick go on it first?

Are the bonuses worth it or even too good so they are game breaking?

I believe the main bonus is unlimited port crystals/ferry stones which allow you to fast travel around the map. It's pretty useful in this game when it can take you about 20 minutes to run from one area to another.

Is there much point progressing onto New Game Plus, or should I just stick with grinding in Post Game? The monsters don't scale to your level in New Game Plus apparently?

My achievements for Dragon's Dogma are now listed as being for DD: Dark Arisen. So, no need to go after all the achievements again. Probably.

Can't wait for Dark Arisen. I'm in the mood for another RPG now, and I sold my copy of vanilla DD in anticipation of this expansion. I might have to go back to Dark Souls, although I found that game so relentlessly punishing and progress so slow that it was just a chore to play.

Must admit, I'm starting to struggle with DS myself.

I've enjoyed it so far, and can appreciate it, but it takes me hours to get even a tiny little bit further forward, and I just can't commit to that kind of gaming time anymore.

I'm thinking of having another go at Skyrim. I'm told that a complete delete & reinstall solves all the PS3 problems I was still having after all the incremental patches.

I just want something I can relax with.

Yeah, time is definitely a factor for me these days too. Another thing with Dark Souls compared to Demon's is that the world design, while really clever, didn't resonate with me like Demon's hub structure did. I also find the PvP massively unbalanced where it was never a problem for me in Demon's. I also find it very draining to play, as you have to be on fill alert, and like you mention, it's not really the kind of game you can relax with. But, I haven't played it since about July last year, so maybe I should give it another shot. I also bought the DLC cheap in sale a couple of months ago.

I am also finding myself tempted to pick up Skyrim, but I'm convinced there will be a GotY version before long.

Blasphemy! But I know what you mean. You have to be in the mood for it. But trust me it does get as easy as skyrim later on.

If you want something to relax with, then skyrim is a good choice. Or DD.

Where are you both stuck in dark souls, put of curiousisty?

Must get back on DD and drag uncle vryt out of retirement

I am still playing Skyrim, but am looking forward to this Dark arisen malarkey after all the raving about it I read in here.

I had better do loads more in skyrim first though, since i tend to lose myself in rpg's for long spells of time and won't get enough time to juggle both.

Shame there's so many games I want being released just now too, something's going to have to give...

Thought I preferred Demon's Souls, Dark Souls had a better designed world by far.

Though a single world didn't reach the brilliance of Demon's Souls' Tower of Latria, the way the world connected and the sheer variety was mightily impressive.

On topic - can't wait for Dark Arisen. DD was one of the best surprises of last year and a criminally underrated game. Loved the scope and nearly flawless combat.

The pawn system is also one of the best things I've experienced in a while and can't believe it's not been pilfered yet!

@quadfather I still haven't killed the two bloody gargoyles! Haven't really tried to be honest, as I convinced myself that I'd like to summon whathisname to help and I CANNOT find any humanity.

Level 21 now, with the toolboxes needed to enhance & repair my own gear, but just don't feel like I'm getting anywhere. I only get the chance to play on weekend mornings, do an hour or so, go around the same old bits of the map, maybe level up once and then get killed :(

ok, easy way to do it - get the 3 pine resin from the chest in the undead burg. Forget about summoning. Go to gargoyles. two hand your sword and buff it with pine resin. Go through door. Circle strafe the first gargoyle (ignore the other one completely) and attack it to death as quick as you can. You don't want 2 gargoyles on you. When you're down to the 2nd one, just circle strafe his fire and attack from the side/back of him.

Back on topic though - I must see where I am with DD this weekend

Last tiny thing - you can farm pine resin later, so don't worry about it.

    Right, I'll be quiet now

    Sorry :)

Do you mean the ur dragon?

Because if so, I don't know - I'm only about half way through the game, maybe a bit more. I've done bluemoon tower (Second time). How far through is that?

Ah right! Yeah, I left it to play dark souls "for a bit", but that lasted about a year.

Last time I was on, I changed from Ranger to sorcerer to get my magic up a bit and the acuity perk/spell/thing so I could then go magick archer properly.

But I might bin that off and try assassin. If I don't like that, I'm going back to Ranger I think.

I really can't remember where I am. I know that I've progressed the main story enough to start getting the quests from the 'inner' place instead of the chap outside. But that's about it.

I'll just have to load it up and see obviously

I think you do still have quite a bit left to do. Especially if you do the bulk of the side quests and things.

It's weird, early on in the game it was a massive pain in the arse when I was up against groups of bandits or goblins and, god fordid, a chimeralurched into view to join the party and then suddenly, you're annihilating everything with impunity.

There will come a time later when you're almost right back to square one again though..
