Picked this up for 15 new today in Xpress Games (they have three branches I think, here in Kent only). Must resist and finish Risen 2 first.

Funnily enough I saw Risen 2 for 10 new yesterday. I probably would have picked it up for that price if I didn't have this, Dark Souls and Mass Effect 1 all on the go. Is it worthwhile? I also nearly ordered Two Worlds Two from Amazon the other day.

    i loved risen 1, i liked risen 2

Yeah, thanks for the tip on the ferrystones - I'll have a check when I'm next in town. Am I right in thinking that ferrystones return you to Gran Soren and portstones can be laid anywhere as a warp point? Do you need to use a ferrystone to go to a port stone location?
Once you lay down a portstone you'll get a little menu when you use a ferrystone asking if you want to teleport to Gran Soren or the portstone you put down. Four tactically placed portstones would allow you to teleport pretty much anywhere on the map. :D

@Goodfella There's at least one extra one to be had over the one fixed for you in Grand Soren.

A certain battle with a Griffin will see you right...

This game is starting to grate a bit now. The travelling on foot thing is a real drag. I've just been somewhere that was a twenty minute trek away, wandered round Gran Soren for a bit doing pointless little fetch quests, then get told to go back to the place that is twenty minutes away. And because the map is essentially just narrow roads leading from one area of the map to another it's a real chore.

Can't face it again tonight. It's a shame as when you're just investiagting new areas and fighting enemies the game is great. The endlesss fetch/investigation quests and long, repetitive traveling means I might just give up on it soon.

@neilqpr Sorry to hear that. All I can add is that there's plenty to see and do off the beaten track. You don't have to stick to the roads.

Yeah plus you'll be amazed at how small the game world actually is when you know where you are going. IN the hundred and so hours I spent with it I genuinely never considered it a problem.

See this is a big gripe I have, the map seems to be designed just to make the game time longer. Essesntially it seems to be made up of overly long roads leading to the few main areas, with a bit of grass either side so you can have a bit of a fight if you want. The map isn't wide open and full of interesting places like say Oblivion or Fallout. And even though you have to travel on foot between areas in Dark Souls there aren't many long roads where nothing happens.

I just seem to spend most of my time in this game walking, and it's getting a bit dull now.

I need to stop fiddling with my inventory so much. Every time I return to Soren after adventuring I dump everything and semi-randomly combine curatives and other items. Then I sort through the gear I picked up and try to work out what's better than the enhanced stuff I already have equipped. And then there's the new gear in the shop which I can't compare like-for-like because of said enhancements. Ughhh...

Last night I spent 20-30 minutes navigating an annoying as shit dungeon trying to find a quest marker, only to somehow end up right back where I started - and all the enemies had respawned. Ughhh...

On the plus side, me and my band of merry women can take down pretty much everything with consummate ease. I think I just need to forego the tedious sidequests and press on with the "story" because my interest is just starting to wane.

You'll also find that when you are at a level where travelling really is a pain (because you comfortably beat anything you meet on the roads) you are either a) swimming in cash, port crystals and ferrystones or b) have os much stamina you sprint everywhere anyway.

Just wear the stuff that looks good. There isn't a whole lot of difference between the armor values. The weapons on the other hand are a straight up improvement - you pretty much never need to use a weapon with lower attack value (the elemental attack usually doesn't make up for the difference).

I recommend a NG+ in hard mode. You'll be able to put down your own portcrystals and teleport everywhere. :)

I spent four hours last night doing an escort quest to the Great Encampment, mainly because I kept dying. So I was killing a mob, saving, repeat, repeat.

Finally made it after the eighth attempt of trying to kill a cyclops that was having a great time just throwing my pawns off the edge of a cliff.

Then I had to run all the way back...

Saved and quit after that, got a choice tonight to either escort Madelaine to the Shadow Fort, Selene to.a Healing Spring to mop up
Side quests that are available in Gran Soren or to finally go to the pawn guild

Only level sixteen at the moment. Quite enjoying it.

You know the easy way to do that escort mission (or any escort mission for that matter), is to just leg it passed everything, right? ;-)

I agree with the posters who have said this game gets a bit tiresome after a while due to the rather long trips from camp to camp. It wouldn't be so bad if there was a bit of variety to the enemies you face but it's the same bloody goblins, in the same places everytime.

This game could have been so much better if there was a bit of randomness to it, but there isn't at all.

I have given it a good go and have completed the main story but there is no way I'm starting NG+ as it became a real chore at the end.

There is a lot of walking, but I tend to stock up on stuff to do at gran soren, and then combine them all in one route. So it takes at least 3/4 days/nights to get them all done. That way, you're only really travelling a little bit before the next area of stuff to do. And if you tactically place a few portcrystals around the world, it's also not far to get to one of those to get back to grand soren.

Plus you get the added advantage of random encounters throughout the night. In fact, I think adding in the night helps a lot to spice up the encounters.

Playing devil's advocate though, I agree it's not as free form as skyim or similar, with set encounters near the roadside that get on your tits after a while

I'm enjoying it. It has a great sense of humour and a really solid sense of place, pirating around the Caribbean. Two Worlds 2 is still on my to-buy list - for all its faults, I enjoyed the first one.

I was going for the hero trophy. I was given flowers from Quina to take to some priests. I thought, since I'm roughly in the area I might go and do that female bandit quest on the way. So I go and find out it's bugged: Ophis kept attacking me despite everyone being women.

I tried the usual stuff, like say, kill them all and sleep for a week in the inn. Took me hours trying different stuff. Finally the solution was to kill everyone except Ophis and lure her out of the castle which made her forget that she was trying to kill me and I was able to finish the bandit quest.

Except the cunting flowers had wilted in the week that I slept trying to fix the bug. Great! I guess it's NG++ some day in the future but for now I'm done with the game.

D'oh /0\ You'll kick yourself mrharvest because you can actually give those flowers straight back to Quina. It can even make her fall in love with you!! :)

I went down there earlier. And what a bloody annoying grindy pain in the arse it was. Why the dungeon had to be constructed in that fashion, as if gathering 20 wakestones wasn't enough of a trial, will forever remain a mystery to me. Killing all those bosses was fun, though.

@FabricatedLunatic Yeah, this bit is starting to feel like a chore, although I think I just read that you can get out anytime, and that a certain innkeeper is available nearby.

Will be booting it up sometime in the next couple of hours to return to the fray.
