Good interview with Julian Gollup, the game's producer, here.

Sounds great- TBS gameplay, lots of missions, a small pool of units with equipment to select for the job in hand, and the near-future ghosts setting. Graphics look functional at best but if it's half as good as Advance Wars or Fire Emblem, I'll take it.

I'm quite glad I got this now after watching the walkthrough last night. Looks like you can sink a fair few hours in to it at the very least!

Been playing this a little bit today and have been liking it so far. Seems pretty tactical and in depth.
The 3D seems to work pretty well also despite me thinking there wasn't going to be much to it from some of the previews.
All in all pretty pleased I got it for launch!

I'm also pleased I bought this game on launch but it didn't help that I couldn't find hardly any info on it. Silent sleeper hit!

This is the only launch game I've brought but I'll have to wait get home to play it. Non of the other launch titles appeal to me, with Pilot Wings looking a little too basic for a 39.99 game and SF4 being the 3rd SF4 game released of which I own 2 and don't want another.

3 hours play on this now.

I'm really enjoying it. The graphics let it down a bit- the cartoony style with the black outline reminds me of Fire Emblem DS or Mytran Wars PSP, but the 3D is pretty good, adds some real depth to it and not too obtrusive (although a gratuitous missile gets fired out of the screen at the start. I'll let it off this one time.)

The overall gameplay, however, is outstanding. Rolling objectives, different classes that you can level up, and the squad all work well together as well. Little touches like being able to touch anything with the stylus to get more information, or click a button on any square to see the support fire/counterattacks that would happen if you fired from that position are great.

The abstract rules work really well- Hard cover gives you a 50% damage reduction, you do more damage shooting down at people, if you are one square back from a ledge you can't be seen. All of this is introduced gradually, until you are happily taking apart entire platoons of guys with your ghost team.

What I like the most is being able to select the difficulty at the start if each mission. Harder difficulties=more xp, but you only get your full allotment of xp if you complete every objective, so it's worth checking a couple of times in case they change.

Finally, you can save anywhere. Essential for a handheld game like this.

Agreed with most of the comments in here. Graphics are ropey, but you adjust to them. The gameplay is wonderful though. And, I don't even mind the characters despite the story being pretty terrible.

Having never played UFO/Jagged Alliance, I'd say it's a great game for Advance Wars fans.

I thought this had multiplayer...seems not. Just two people using one console for a battle. Can't wait to play a multiplayer game with some people!

Also, has anyone else experienced this crashing and losing all your level progress? It's happened to me twice. That'll teach me not to save mid-level.

Not crashed yet, i got full squad of six and actually the most played 3DS game bar none, only got 4 games and two of those are rental. But despite rented games being on limited 7 days availability, i still cant drag myself away from owned Shadow Wars.

Glad that this game convinced me on 3DS, sure graphically quite functional, but does the job and hoping for more games from Julian Gollop in near future on back of hopeful success of Shadow Wars.

I hope word of mouth helps this one too. Think it deserves it. Might also encourage Ubisoft to stop shoveling shit onto consoles at launch and actually develop original games.

Up to about the 3rd mission, pretty cool so far, seems that there is a couple of new ideas and it plays quite well, the missions feel like the scenarios in games like Lasersquad

Just happened to me twice in a row at the mission where you have to destroy the SAM missile launchers. :-(

Switched for the moment to playing Rayman 3D - yeah, I know, I must be the only one that got that from what I can see!

Will try again tomorrow, hope the crashes don't continue as I am really enjoying Ghost Recon!

I can't rate this game highly enough. Perfect for little bursts, helped greatly by the save-at-any-point system. Don't understand the comments about the graphics, it looks fine to me ad the 3D really does add something.

Aside from the crashing, which seems to have stopped for the moment, it's ace. Out of the launch line up I definitely think I made the right choice. For me that is, others may not like turn-based strategy games.

    Mine hasn't crashed yet
    /tempts fate

It's turning into a gem of a strategy game later on- vehicles, drones, allied units etc.
