Not really no, it is a huge array of political factions, from the honourable and honest to incestuous and child murdering (and thats just the first few chapters), fighting for power across several thousand pages of dense, complex war. Alliances come and go, backs are stabbed, factions annihilated, fortunes change. With a very slight sprinkling of magic.

But on telly, and with Sean Bean in it.

Early reviews out of America are very positive. I like how a couple of people have described it as feeling like a fantasy The Wire so far.

Yeah it definitely dumps you right in, just like the Wire. It's very good, definitely up to the usual HBO quality and by far the best fantasy I've seen on TV. A lot of the episode is spent setting up characters but there's still some great moments. Looking forward to the next episode already, apparently it only gets better.

I like how piracy is just assumed these days.

Ah..Sky....will it be on a non pay per view channel next year?

Edit: Funny...part of it was filmed in the H&W shipyard's old Paint Hall, which I used to help maintain when I worked there. Never imagined it as a film set.

Channel 5 seem to be the only Freeview channel interested in buying American shows anymore. Even Channel 4 have said they are cutting down on imported shows in favour of making their own and the BBC had to cut down on their import buying as part of their last budget review.

So if your not one to follow the downloading route... Getting Sky/Virgin digital TV really are your only options if you want to see quality TV anymore.

Kind of makes you wonder what we pay out TV license for doesn't it?...

Edit: Oh and if you haven't noticed, George R. R. Martin is giving an introduction to the series at 8:30 before the show itself.

I enjoyed it - yes! Ya know, first ep. and all isn't always the greatest or most exciting, but I was more than happy and it had me looking forward to seeing more.

Is that an intro and the show or just an intro? because that's the only thing I've set to record /0\

On my TV, the intro and show were separate. Intro is only 15 minutes or a half hour.

Loved it and The Imp is one of the best characters in the book by miles and Dinklage has nailed the essence of the character.

    Happy days! \o/

Watching the first 10 mins. That dude looks a lot like Matt Damon.

When you can't see the angles on the wall you're in trouble.

That was gooood. Certainly has a lot of potential to be very interesting indeed.

Noob question though: was that the Queen at the end? And who exactly is that guy who was shagging her? I didn't get his place in complex family tree.

Yes it was the Queen and the dude was her brother.

The acting in the first 10 minutes really put me off, but I got through it and...

...I'll give it more time. The wire took about 8 eps to really grow on me.

It's pretty faithful to the book so far. I'm only halfway into reading it, but there's lines lifted straight off the book and only a few minor changes here and there. Of course, it is early days, but it's all good so far.

The actress who plays Daenerys is gorgeous.

Very good. Always reliable HBO does it again. I panicked when I saw Mark Addy in the credits but he did well. The imp is great, seems like the Calamity Jane character in Deadwood.

I was surprised by how funny it was, and glad. The ending was brilliant.
