    What?

Accidents can be preventable. I knocked my coffee cup over by accident. Could have prevented that, but because I didn't it doesn't mean I did it deliberately.

Ah, therein lies the issue: You have a very strange definition of the word accident.

    This!

Whether something was an accident and whether it was preventable are unrelated. I also don't think the term "accident" implies that there was no blame, rather that the result was not what was intended.

The world is going mad. Me? I'm doing fine.

The US the biggest oil producer in the world?

So when are they going to invade themselves?

If it's preventable it doesn't stop in from being an accident.

    Most accidents are preventable.

Of course not. But saying that there's no possible way for something like this to be an accident is silly.
Its not an accident, it's completely preventable.

Right, I'm going to bulldoze down your house and if you're in the living room whilst I do it, well that's an accident because I didn't think you're there.

If you didn't think they were there then yes, that is an accident. If you didn't bother to check then that is negligent/lazy, if you thought they were there then that is deliberate.

How are you struggling with this?

I'm not struggling, I think if you're sold by the accident cop out in this scenario you must be utterly incapable of an ounce of sensible thought.

Aaron, everyone on the forum is saying one thing. You are saying another. This should be a pretty big clue.

It may be they were negligent and they certainly should have taken more care. But they turned up there to knock down houses they thought were empty. They didn't turn up there to kill the girl. Therefore her death was accidental.

LB, you really are a massive geek.

You seem to think that if it's preventable an accident is not possible.

    That's simply wrong.

I think you're letting the bigger picture get in the way of logic.

    Come and get it cumslingers!

By everyone on the forum for you mean those that you agree with?

Thanks for your factual account of the situation, excuse me if I fail to agree with it though.

You think they went there to kill the girl? That was why they were there? With a bulldozer, noted throughout the world as something more suited to demolition than homicide?

No, I think killing a person whilst undertaking the disgusting business of evicting and bulldozing down people's homes is not an accident.

Except it could be. It not being an accident would mean the person driving the bulldozer saw them, or knew they were there, and chose to keep going.
