Because IB, it's poetic, and you know very well why.

Well that would be the reasonable response. But the Tories seem a bit extreme these days.

Nah, Tories just like a good bit of dick waving. On their gold thrones.

MPs also talk about austerity in an expensive piece of London riverside real estate while sitting on green leather seats.

    What complete and utter bastards.
  • Deleted user 20 November 2013 11:17:53
I don't think anyone was actually making a serious point with it, more that it chimes rather too well with the image of the Tory rich boys, i.e. rich kids telling everyone else there's not enough cake to go around.

Which is fine for them, because they have lots of cake.

It's a snapshot, an idea condensed into a moment. It's evocative, and trite. Hence it's popular.

Bit harsh....I'd be generous and grant them economic asylum.

David Cameron Follows High-Class London Escort Agency On Twitter

The press-office's response? Labour's fault. I'm not even making this up.

    JamesLyons @MirrorJames
David Cameorn is following escourts around on Twitter http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-25015034 "London's finest luxury boutique escort service"

    CCHQ Press Office @RicHolden
@MirrorJames because Gordon Brown set the No.10 account to auto-follow-back when he ran it.

@MrTomFTW Well he better change it before the porn filter kicks in, or he will have to discuss it with his wife!

Like Brown's 'Golden Age' moment, for a different reason in a different context. Same suit and chair.

NOT LITERALLY THE SAME SUIT BUT IT MIGHT BE THE SAME CHAIR

I always find the 'motorist' lobby a funny one. I get the gripes at speed cameras and taxes and things - even if I may not agree with them - but it's at once an absurdly broad and narrow demographic - surely Bloom's politics contradicts at least 50% of those 30 million motorists. Just cos you drive a car doesn't mean you necessarily agree with anything someone like Bloom has to say about anything else.

Why don't we just stipulate that all EU members have to have the same fundamental benefit system? Surely that would kill off 'benefit tourism'?

Those duck houses do not put new roofs on themselves you know.

If you thought people couldn't feel any more cynical about politics, wait 'till that happens.

That's actually quite funny, if I'm not mistaken this probably relates to the conversation that was had earlier in the year regarding paying ministers more to make them less corruptible. If that is the case then an extra 7k isn't really going to mean a lot and this is a bit of a piss take when there has been a pay freeze in the civil service for over three years. At least implement the idea fully rather than this piecemeal rubbish that pleases no one.

MPs don't set their own pay anymore. I don't think it's quite a "think tank" either. It's this lot that now set their salary.

Also, I don't think it will happen anyway. It's been rejected across the board because it would obviously be political suicide.

Well, being a MP should be well paid. It's kinda an important job.

But, as has been mentioned, it's bad form to get a raise right now and the context of this is that they shouldn't have to (nor be allowed to) claim for as much as they currently do. Bang: easier, more transparent, less snout-in-trough kinda system.
