Haha! That side of the CoE make fairly regular appearances in P.E. for making investments that are seemingly at odds with doing God's good work.

Actually, Mr Cable has little room to criticise when he says something like this, "He said: “It's stupid, the whole idea that illegal immigrants have got a sophisticated grasp of English. It is offensive."

    Haha :D

    Amazing.

The government has just come out and said that people criticising the blatantly unjustifiable detention of David Miranda are effectively condoning terrorism.

This is in light of a statement by the White House saying they were given advance notice of the planned detention, which makes it seem almost impossible that it was not linked to his boyfriend's reporting of the Snowden saga.

He was a Brazilian though so he is actually quite lucky given our previous fuck up's on the whole terrorism and Brazil thing.

Lol at the Home Office's generic response. If the guy was a threat, then you could have just refused the flight from entering British Airspace and have him take a different route back to Brazil.

They took his Vita? Bad news for Sony and will be a major dent in their future software sales.

Yep, some of the coverage yesterday specified they'd taken his gaming handhelds.

Other sites and tv channels (like the BBC), of course, put it under the "other technology" generic label.

My experience of religion in the US is that it's as much about appearances as anything else. Sure, there are the truly devout, but most I know go to church on Sunday because it's what you do to be considered godfearing and respectable.

Said it before, say it again: if we didn't speak English, but instead the continent all spoke French or German (say), we'd feel so much closer to them than the USA. Culturally we're far closer to Europe in many respects (and to the USA in others) than a lot of people seem to care to admit.

P.S. Fairly expected that 'college' degree shows less admiration for own nation's culture - relatively speaking.

The language thing is completely true. Also there's a remarkable amount of people in this country who still think of the French and Germans as 'enemies'. It's depressing really.

We fought the US as recently as France, really. Germany, obviously different.

But the fight against Germany in the first half of 20th has elided a lot of less-than-friendly US/British relations during and before that time - as is pretty well known. We are similar in some ways, totally estranged in others - very broadly speaking.

A number of eurosceptic people seem to love the idea of jumping ever deeper into the US's bed. Neo-liberal bla.

I agree with that. It'd be disaster for a presidential candidate to say he/she wasn't religious. A lot of lip service is paid to faith in the USA, not necessarily the actions one might expect to follow.

I remember reading a report during the 2008 presidential election where the writer had set out to find a US politician who would admit to being an atheist. In the end the only person they could find who would admit to it outright was some octogenarian socialist firebrand who was some sort of minor local politician in a big city. I wish I could find the article.

According to some loons I've seen on that telebox, we already are a fully Islamic state.

I for one welcome our new overlords.

Also: reminds me of people who saw the opening of the Olympics as being too 'lefty' - because a black guy dancing with a white girl is somehow something the right really hate the idea of.

OH WAIT, I SEE WHAT THE FUCKTARDS DID TO THEMSELVES THERE

Perhaps the authour should have paid attention to the 'Fringe' part of 'Fringe Festival' before visiting.
