Still doesn't explain "upper-middle class". Is it a separatist part of the middle class?

Have you really never heard that term before? I would say we have lots of people that fit into that around here.

A family where the parents were teachers earning maybe 60 grand between them would probably consider themselves middle class. A girl with millionaire parents who went to a posh private school and St Andrews University and then married a Prince would also be described as middle class.

It's a fairly meaningless term. "Upper" middle class have had more money for longer, live in nicer houses in more expensive areas, and send the kids to posher schools - but still don't consider themselves upper class because their ancestor wasn't the illegitimate spawn of a royal and Britain is messed up in the head.

What's to get? It's the public-school level of wealth. Comfortable suburbia, bankers, au pairs, Lakeland kitchens etc etc.

Personally I am upper working class bordering on lower middle class. I just need to get the conservatory finished and I can make the jump.

    It goes something like this:

    The Queen
    Royalty
    Upper Class
    Upper Middle Class
    Middle Class
    Lower Middle Class
People who claim to be working class but are actually middle class
    Working class
People who claim to be working class but haven't worked for years
People who have never worked since leaving school
People who appear on Jeremy kyle

As if anyone's never heard the term 'upper-middle class'.

Anyway, broadly speaking they are poshos who haven't got the ancestry to count as proper aristocrats, but they like to pretend anyway.

Britain's most hated politician opens his stupid mouth again.

Michael Gove would vote for Britain to leave the EU

Also suggests LDs are plotting to put Vince Cable in charge.

I don't understand why Nigel Farage attracts hatred when there are people like Gove who deserve it so much more. You know what Farage is about. He's fairly clear in what he says (leaving what he doesn't say, but never mind that for now) whereas people like Gove are born weasels.

I would think UKIP has a lot of working class support. It's where I most often hear the statement of “foreigners coming over here and stealing our jobs” expressed.

Upper middle class types actually are not really effected by this and it probably means they can just get their house remodelled more cheaply. If anyone really is losing out to foreigners stealing jobs it's really going to be people at the bottom of the employment market in the main.
Fun fact: at the same time that the BNP saw a membership crash of 90%, UKIP saw a membership surge....

I picture upper middle class as older money. Lower middle is more new: might have the cash, but if nouveu riche, might not have the 'class'.

    < total snob.

Shortly after that Factory fire in Bangladesh, more people than ever voted UKIP. Proves they're full of racists.

Upper middle class is inherited money. I.E, the Tory front bench who were all handed an empire or a fortune from their parents. Trust fund babies, born with a silver spoon, etc. I view "upper" class as consisting of Monarchs, etc.

It's all a bit bollocks anyway, the traditional class system doesn't exist anymore.

To be honest, I don't care what a car looks like. It could be Chitty Chitty Bang Bang for all I care, as long as I get to where I want to go.
