Just finished with 18ish hours on the clock. It did get a bit repetitive in terms of missions, but the world was beautifully crafted and all mechanics felt slick and seamless.

I'm going to go and give this a well deserved 8.

I think I've played the single player on this more than any other game on the 360, It isn't even my favourite game.

The game has that rare x factor - it gets the core gameplay elements right , makes them fun and then gives a great environment to use them. The story is also decent

The fighting mechanics for example, GTA 5 would have to equal or beat Sleeping Dogs in order to impress me. The same goes for gunplay
Agree that GTA needs better melee, but having been playing through GTA IV over the last couple of weeks, IMO it has much better gunplay than Sleeping Dogs already.

Finished last night. Took me 34 hours to get 100%. Awesome stuff. 9 if not 10/10.

Completed the story last night, good fun and great ending. The combat was best part of the game, the car chases were sick as well. Game was quite easy, actually enjoyed the missions more than gta.

That's what makes a great games, get a few mechanics the player enjoys doing over and over again.

All the great games have 2-3 things that are just great mechanics that you don't tire of.

I also like that they didn't break the system trying to make it more difficult at the end.

Rode a bike down a staircase and killed a goon by pinning him against the wall, and trapping his friend behind the bike at the same time. Then I hit his friend so hard he did the splits while standing up.

Dude did the motherfucking splits, yo.

Spot on. Amazed at how many times I could play the combat against the same enemies, drive the same car and fire the same two guns without getting bored.

Best part of the game imo is the world of Hong Kong, and Wei. The amount of Cantonese is incredible, and Wei is just a really sympathetic character.

    Ending was really anticlimactic though.

This must be doing well, sales-wise. Just noticed that the average price has gone up a couple of quid, on PS3 anyway.

The map is annoying me no end. I have just one more box to find in central, it's not appearing for love nor money (yes, I've done the missions that makes them show up on the map).

It's at the top of Victoria Peak, you can't see it because the name blocks it, hover the cursor over it and it'll appear.

I had exactly the same problem.

I tried that, it's already collected. Starting to suspect a glitch. Thanks anyway

If you go to your map and press X, or square depending on your platform of choice, you can see all available collectibles (according to which girlfriend missions you have completed). The ones you have collected are white, whilst the ones you haven't are dulled and grey.

    Hope that helps.

Played about an hour of this and seriously impressed with it. I like that you can choose to do the Cop stuff or the Triad stuff and with the hi res texture pack it looks amazing.

Could be the start of a really nice series this.

Oh also, I think the addition of a 'Ram' button is brilliant and all of these type of agmes should have it as an option to end police chases.

The only gold stats i'm missing are the disarm and free ones, is there a good mission where these can be done easily, I'm not even sure I know what I'm supposed to do for these.

The hospital mission has plenty of stuff to dive over and take guns off bad guys, I think they count whether you complete the mission or not so you could farm them by getting yourself killed.

I'm really enjoying this, but there's one thing that's souring it - they're selling experience points - cop, triad and face - and in-game cash for real money.

Finding it difficult to level up a stat? Maybe they designed it that way so you'd want to buy XP instead.

If it weren't for that, I'd recommend the game to people wholeheartedly. Now I'd caution them to rent or wait for an all-in-one ediition.

    EDIT:

This is why I rented it. I might still buy a GOTY version a year or so from now.
