You must have been paying him about 20k a week in that case, as he was on no more than 60k at Spurs.
I can't find any proof, but I remember it being talked about a lot at the time. There's a few articles that claim Pompey offered him 75k a week.

Couple of papers going with Rooney being sold in the summer. I can see it, to be honest.

    Can't believe he's 28 in a few months.

I remember that goal against Arsenal as if it were yesterday.

    Now I too feel old...

Turns out when I said "a couple" I meant basically all of them.

I really don't see them selling Rooney. He won't go abroad and why on earth would they want to strengthen one of their rivals like that?

Not to mention he is still more than doing a job at United.

I'm still amazed that I'm older than Kompany, yet alone Gerrard!

Footballers to tend to look older than they are though.

Because a lot of them are absolute units

It makes sense for Utd to sell now. If they offer him a new contract, it's just money down the toilet. They should sell while he's still worth a ridiculous amount.

There's only two clubs that can afford him and it doesn't make sense for them to sell to either. I don't see it.

It's a non-story based on a tactical decision in the Madrid match. Typical bollocks.

Two months ago we'd already agreed to sell Nani and he would never play for us again. Funny how that one's gone a bit quiet.

The papers started writing these Rooney stories the moment they found out he wasn't starting. Pure, utter Britsh tabloid nonsense.

These articles say "Rooney and Ferguson have had a strained relationship since the start of the season". Funny that this shite wasn't written then, eh.

If Rooney had of started, the stories wouldn't have appeared.

    Hated, adored, never ignored.

    Perhaps he'll come to Arsenal.

The Metro was linking him with a move to Arsenal. One of the bookies has it at 14-1.

He's on 200k a week (apparently). There's not a chance he'll stay in the PL unless it's City or Chelsea. Actually, Chelsea seem most likely.

He'll blatantly stay at United anyway. Load of fuss over nothing.

Yeah, if he leaves it will be because he doesn't want to fight for a place in the team. In which case he can happily fuck off.

On form he's undroppable. If he's not willing or able to be at that level consistently then he has to get used to being rested once in a blue moon or move on to a team that doesn't have other players of his ability to challenge him for his place.

It will all depend on his ego. To be honest it could go either way.

    Brap, brap, old chap.

Quite funny that his argument for leaving a couple of years ago(publicly anyway) was that the club couldn't match his ambitions and he wanted better players signed, then we go and sign RVP and Rooney no longer has his place guaranteed.

It was all bollocks though, there was never a danger of him going to City imo. It was a play by his agent to get him a massive new contract, and it worked a treat. That's the only reason I could see there being some truth in Fergie wanting rid, cause he's not worth 200k+ a week to us at the moment.

Maybe the footballer formally known as Welbeck is getting to the stage where he can replace Rooney...

    Ok, probably not.

    Come and get it cumslingers!

Its also probably got nothing to do with him constantly looking unfit and having to have a winter break because he is such a knacker. No one would link those two things with what happened the other day. No one.

With FFP coming in, imagine the calibre of player you could get for 250 large a week.

In fact, rooney out, ronaldo in.
