It's a real and true opinion of some people. Like AVB did nothing and RDM won the whole thing.

You are a factory of sadness.

To be fair I doubt AVB could have turned round the Napoli tie. John Terry's management was magnificent in that second leg.

My club is dying a slow death at the hands of a dictator who can do whatever he wants. He has set an example now that others can follow.

We should praise AVB for scraping through a weak group and then getting battered by Napoli? I think I have heard it all

It's more than Di Matteo achieved this season.

Considering his Spurs team are higher than Chelsea, perhaps you shouldn't be lolling.

AVB did a pretty bad job at Chelsea in all fairness. RA is largely to blame for his failure, in that he didn't give him the freedom or support needed to implement his philosophy immediately, but naivety and obstinacy on AVB's part meant that he didn't buy himself time to do it in the long term.

It has worked out extraordinarily well for Spurs though. We have managed to get ourselves a "next big thing" manager that we would have had no hope of signing had Chelsea not damaged his reputation, and we get a more learned, humble and patient version into the bargain.

This is all true but we were looking good under Di Matteo this season. Sticking with Torres as our only striker was a huge mistake but even so we were playing some nice attacking football with a new group of players and only a few points off the top spot. It was a vast improvement on last season under AVB, who is a decent manager but came to us at the wrong time.

There's never a right time to manage Chelsea.

    Come and get it cumslingers!

Rafa Benitez has a better win percentage at Chelsea than AVB has at Tottenham. Just thought I'd throw it out there. :)

    Not in the PL.

Interestingly comments from Van der Vaart this week suggest that AVB basically ditched him, as opposed to the story about him leaving to save his marriage. Quite interesting. I wonder how things might have progressed at Chelsea if he'd have been allowed to do the same there.

I dunno, are the Spurs team actually flying or is Bale overcompensating ?

Chelsea seem to have a nice group of upcoming players and for AVB or any other manager in the future to survive, would have to cut the little gang out and have the backing of the owner. Didn't happen. Perhaps ease the transition of old to new instead so they wouldn't be twats. There is a bunch of players there who are complete undermining cunts and need to be let go.

Well, Mancini hasn't managed much better with arguably a better squad.

    Not arguably shirly.

They got rid of AVB before the final with his/JTs team.

People aren't exactly rushing to give Di Matteo a top job are they? Avram Grant was almost as good.
  • Deleted user 28 February 2013 13:28:12
If we're pulling out win ratios, Grant's was incredibly high.

Surely (obviously) the change in performance is the important conclusion to draw from that list.

Mourinho the greatest gain. Rafa the greatest fall.

All depends on who you're playing, surely. You don't get a full season at Chelsea often under one manager so the ratios aren't directly comparable.

Having now heard the full Benitez rant, I have to say I'n in pretty much total agreement with every word he said. The club set him up to fail and the fans behaved liked babies. Feel quite sorry for him to be honest.

He's only annoyed because 'interim' means he wont get a retirement fund like the rest of them when he gets the chop.

125 years ago this week, Aston Villa's chairman started the first football league.

    Very good.

Unless you pronounce his name 'Kr-ull' rather than 'Kr-ool'......then it doesnt make sense.

Ben "better than Bale" Arfa won't be back after all either.

Thats a shame - the sooner he can get back and replace Jonas the better.

Having Cabaye and Tiote sitting behind a front four of Ben Arfa, Gouffran, Sissoko and Cissť is bonerific.
