Tony Cascarino deserves to be held in the same regard as all the other legendary Irish players.

Andy Townsend, Mick McCarthy, Mark Lawrenson, John Aldridge, Phil Babb......
Except a coupe of those were decent players for us so we didn't mind them so much.

    Cascarino though, fuck him.
Aye, Townsend was a properly good player. I'm sure Lawrenson was a decent player in his day too.

You are a factory of sadness.

Growth hormones are a wonderful thing.
Also, and I know this is often considered a racist comment to make, but given he grew up in the Congo, is it possible he is actually older than that?

I know it's a stereotype, but there is some truth in it. I have a couple of friends from Ghana who don't know their real age.

There was the time when pele famously said 'an African nation will win a world cup' after watching Nigeria win the under-17s world cup with a of 30 somethings.

Was that a veiled version of "some of my best friends are black"? ;-)

What I find strange is that a lot of players who are pushed physically as much as he obviously has been will end up with a slew of injuries but he hasn't had many serious injuries so far and I'm sure he gets battered and kicked quite a lot considering his size and speed. He wouldn't look out of place on the rugby pitch!

You are a factory of sadness.

The ones that end up with the injuries are the slighter smaller ones. If you're a fucking tank like him, you're the one causing the injuries.

There's probably some truth in that but I can't help but think he's been training those muscles a lot and pushing his body to a physical limit and I would expect that to make a difference at some point. Not that I know anything much about training at the top level. I wouldn't be surprised if he's crocked by the time he's 25.

Could go either way. If he is indeed "the next Drogba" then it could well just be the way he's built naturally.

BT to buy ESPN channels in the UK and take over the rights to numerous football packages.

Thought that had been confirmed before.

Does this mean there will now be BT channels on Sky and Virgin? And presumably Virgin customers lose the free ESPN thing as well.

BT are to keep one ESPN channel going and I presume will launch their own channel for their PL games and other stuff.

He was everything I hated about football and was probably at the worst stage in his career from how far back I can remember (post Italia 90 really).

He was just such a bad footballer, I actually remember him missing a chance on the line because he was such a big awkward luadraman of a man.

Saw a tweet by that 'You'll win nothing with Yids' blogger saying no one at Spurs has improved in the last 12 months. Strange opinion.

no, i imagine now we are in a hole where if you have sky, you can't get BT, but if you have BT you cant get sky sports 3 or 4.

    there's fecking progress for you.

Nah, they'll open it up to Sky - they have to, they know it's the biggest platform. I know they want to use it to drive people to BT Vision (or its successor) but short term, it'll be available on Sky/Virgin. At what cost though....

Seriously considering doing the same next season. Had Sky Sports for the last 15 years but it's a huge chunk of cash. At the very least I'll be able to ring them, safe in the knowledge that I'm prepared to bin it if pushed.

But they did this to help the consumer

its much better than being able to get all your football by just paying one reasonable monthly charge.

Welcome to the world of competition! The theory is sound, but the implementation is a bit shit. The only way to get proper competition would be for a number of companies to own the rights.

Its the same bullshit reason that they opened the railways up for competition, opened up gas and electricity for competition blah blah blah.

Seems like a good idea in strictly capitalist terms, but it just ends up being an expensive pain in the arse.

I've looked into it, but where we are, the satellite footprint for Al Jazeera doesn't reach us. You can set up to receive the Northern European channels though - it can be done relatively cheaply if you know what you're doing.

Need a big fuck off dish too.
