I think Messi is the highest paid player in the world. And until his move away from MLS, Beckham was in the top 5.

    Almost forgot about him (Eto'o).

    On club salary alone though?

I don't know what criteria we're using, but on club wages alone, Eto'o is the highest paid; if you count endorsements, Messi is top with Beckham second.

Salary alone, sorry. Plus image rights I guess. Isn't RvP on Ł240k plus image rights or something stupid?

    This one?

    Translation says:

The Hungarian goalkeeper Vukašin Poleksic is by all accounts bribed to shut goals to ensure that the match ends with at least three goals - bet over 2.5 goals is very popular when fixerne is at stake.

What fixerne could not figure out was that Liverpool this evening was unusually slack with terminations. Although keeper Poleksic is engineered to succeed only Liverpool to score once.
ie. Liverpool are so shit they could only manage to score one goal against a goalkeeper that was trying to throw the game.

According to this list Eto'o, Ibrahimovich and Rooney are the top 3. And I knew that Dario Conca guy in China would be in the top ten.

Never heard of Conca! And I had no idea, MLB was the highest paid sport on the states.

Real Madrid are also building a huge luxury resort in..Dubai I think. One of those resorts were you have to have a certain amount of zeros in the bank before they'll even pick up the phone. It's like a 1 billion investment.

Theres a few clubs doing some really cool stuff with FFP.

I hear Conca soaks himself in vinegar to toughen him up....

I don't understand what that would have to do with FFP.

It wouldnt count towards FFP but, obviously, you could use the proceeds to, if possible, increase the capacity of the Bernabeu, which would.

Probably not to be honest. Bernabeu is rarely sold out.

Which is exactly the point I was making yesterday.

I'm probably being thick but I'm not really following. Don't worry if you can't be arsed to spell it out though, I'm having a slow thinking morning.

When was that 7-1 Man U did against Roma after loosing the previous leg, that seemed rather unbelievable at the time.

Hah - Basically Real Madrid have plunged a huge amount of resources into this resort which is only possible because of the football team, to generate money for the football team. Thing is, because of the FFP regs the revenue generated form it may not even count which is a bit ridiculous. It leaves clubs who try to be a bit creative in how they make their money with just...spare money that they can't spend.

In Turkey Trabsonzpor are building a 50 million hydro electric power station that going to power a large amount of homes and be run as part of the football club (their owners are heavily into the infrastructure over there), bt because it isn't in the immediate stadium grounds chances are revenue generated from it may not count towards the FFP.

It sorta leavs clubs with really standard revenue streams like capacity, hospitality, prize and TV money with little recognition for clubs that try to think a bit more outside the box.

They can spend it on what they like, but yes, there may well be a hypothetical situation where a clubs gate and tv receipts are 20 million and their income from casinos, hotels and offices is 30m. Their outgoings are 40m per year so they are 10m in the black but according to FFP, they are losing 10m a year.

Im sure they have thought about that but even so.

And, im sure if push came to shove and they did ban a team from city like europe, they would sue the fuck out of UEFA for restriction of trade and win.

Its weird, actually. Like most of the other things in football, this is technically illegal.

My last point is the thing that makes me think that they may not enforce it as vigorously as they should. Im sure if a case made it to court UEFA would lose.

I've said this before, but I really don't think FFP has been designed to limit clubs like City and Chelsea - this is just wishful thinking on the part of fans.

It's much more about the likes of Portsmouth and Leeds. QPR should probably be more worried than anyone else.

I think that's a good point Kalel, hadn't considered it like that.

Then you'll have clubs like Stoke that circumvent it in a more low key way.

Only if they want to go into europe. If QPR want to bankrupt themselves to be a mid table side theres still nothing to stop them.

Isn't the Europe ban just the most severe sanction?

It limits the chance of the likes of another Man City coming in and usurping the big clubs who basically have a monopoly on the big rewards in football. It does very little to stop mid-table clubs bankrupting themselves. It's just another way of safeguarding the big guys... you know, the same ones who generally get to vote on all this stuff in the first place.

I dont think so. As far im aware it only applies to clubs that want to take part in europe.

I do stand to be corrected, though.
