Holtby's assist for the assist was lovely though.

Maybe we are missing a proper DM but Wenger says there aren't any in the market.
What he actually said is that he basically doesn't believe in DMs, like Freddy Kruger or the Boogey-man.

When he says there's nothing in the market, he means "super-quality" (on a super cheap price).

I don't doubt the defensive culture of your club has changed, but Bould must be doing something. He was being lauded as the new god of defensive training a few months ago.
Rumored he's not happy as he doesn't get to do what he thought he was there to do (coach defensive strength).
Which isn't surprising, considering Wenger doesn't like to share.

He obviously likes a ball-playing DM as opposed to the pure "Makalele" type, but don't we all? If you have the choice between one that can pass and make runs, and one that can't, which would you go for?

Anyway, they're about. Diame is the obvious one.

Nah, not even the "Makalele" types, he just doesn't like anyone solely responsible for midfield defensive duty, rather it be shared between all 3 CMs, primarily the first 2 CMs.

Of course, when you feel all 3 positions with attack-minded players, and then don't emphasize defensive work, that's not gonna help.

Edit: Can't get Diame. Would "kill" Diaby.

    Quick point about Vermaleen.
He was rightfully seen as a great CB during his first season, not just for his goal-scoring, but his general "fighting" attitude and athleticism (his super-sprint all from the opposing box to ours to stop a counter-attack is testament to that).

The problem, as people forget, is that he's young. He did will working with an older, more experienced and (at the time) "better" CB in Gallas. Since then, he's been giving responsibility too much too soon. He's the type of person that would be a great defender working alongside a JT, but isn't a "JT-Type" himself (not the experience for that).

Now without someone to lead him and calm him down, he just runs around like a headless chicken. And he's our leader.

£19 + extras so maybe that's what he means.

Plus that assist to Aguero :)

More depreciation than a loss. They got good value considering his role in winning them the league.

Considering the mess they usually get into with having to loan players they can't shift and pay their ridiculous wages and whatnot, they've done quite well really.

Again, it's not a loss really. That's depreciation.

Selling Berbatov for £25m less than you paid for him having hardly played him is a loss.

Just cause I hate to see you right about anything:

He's 22 years old. As a striker he's not supposed to be at his prime at this age. I don't think selling him at a lower price than they paid for him can be considered depreciation when he's supposed to have his best years ahead of him.

Berba on the other hand was bought at his peak. So selling him had a factor of depreciation included AND yes there was a significant loss.

So in conclusion, see the first line. :p

If they bought him for £22m then immediately sold him for £19m the day after that would be a loss. But as it is they probably got more than £3m + wages value out of him in the time he was there.

Mertersacker is international class but also total shit. That's your problem.
He's really not though. He makes the odd mistake, and has had a bad couple of games, but he's been easily our best CB this season. Not a high benchmark, granted, but still.

The problem isn't coaching per se, you can't account for good players making such basic errors. That's more a mental thing. The problem we are having is balance. At the start of the season (when Bould was being lauded), we looked much better and quite solid but as a result, our forward play suffered. Wenger clearly thought he prefers us creating chances than a dull draw or scrappy win.

They basically got their money back afaic.

Any "loss" is more than mitigated by his role in edging ahead of Manchester United their long and bitter rivals and cruelly pipping them to the title at the death of the very end of the season. A moment all City fans will know hold over United fans forever more. A moment that many will consider the watershed defining moment in both team's history.

And sorry Dougs, but I really do think Mert is a bit shit. He has some qualities, but some seriously massive flaws in his game.

I think someone described him as playing like a wounded giraffe yesterday. Accurate.

Its brilliant money for someone who is unmanageable due to clearly having mental problems. Im just surprised, as kalel touched on, he didnít just end up there on long term loan.
