Sahin free to leave Liverpool apparently.
Only Liverpool could start Jordan Henderson and leave Sahin rotting on the bench.

Said it at the time, but he should have gone to Arsenal.

Well that was shite, not sure why Rafa rested so many key players as our next two matches are cup games but even so the performance was woeful. Fair play to QPR they wanted it more and got the tactics right.
That's because he is a cup manager.

Tbf Hendo's done his fair share of bench time so far this season, only recently been starting league games again, and he's actually doing quite well.

Can't argue there, though as I remember it Arsenal pulled out so he didn't have the choice.

Only watched the highlights, but Sunderland managed to make Downing and Joe Allen look like an unplayable attacking duo.

If Joe Allen looks good, you know you suck.

People who don’t think Newcastle will be relegated are in “Cloud Cuckoo Land” our six goals against Man U and Arsenal were nothing special as the majority of Premier League teams would have won at Old Trafford and the Emirates as both Arsenal and Man U had an off day.

I think we are destined to go down and the only thing that would cheer me up; is if Alex Ferguson dies or better still is named on the Jimmy Savile paedophile ring.

Great strike by Baines tonight; can anyone enlighten me to “Why a free kick was awarded?”

The foul for the free kick was beyond soft. Shouldn't have been given.

    Troll-tastic, on both counts.

    Heh.

edit; to be fair, MOTD2 has short highlights of the previous day's goals, so I can understand people expecting the same tonight especially as there was only 3 games.

Nice little article from The Guardian on prediction for this year, with a standout section attacking MotD:

    Match of the Day apocalypse
It's coming. Some day soon. Not this season but perhaps in August after a summer of much-required producer rejig. The old ways – the sofa chumminess, the satin-shirted triangulation, the say-what-you-see analysis spots and above all the sense of drag and complacency – just aren't cutting it. It is difficult now even to feel particularly bored or cross about Match of the Day. It is simply a quiet sadness, so far behind Sky Sports that change cannot be far away: perhaps a punditry annihilation, the sweeping out of that old, gruelling heavy-furniture set so heavily stained and weathered by cliché, to be replaced by analysts who are free to rise up on their hind legs and stride about the studio fondling video screens and waggling joysticks. The BBC has got to be better than this. It could yet be the year of change.

Match of the Day is perfectly fine, thank you very much.

If anything, I rather not have Sky and their overly hyperactive (and hyperbole) ways when I am winding down on the odd Saturday evening or two. Yes, they could do with a reshuffle of their sofa-analysts, especially after Lee Dixon left who was great, but it's fine as it is.

Let Sky do their thing and MotD do theirs.

Seeing a little bit more of Gabby Logan wouldn't go amiss ... ; )

Came down to money, you were prepared to pay more of his wages than we were. Apparently. Who knows though, really.

I think MoTD should have Jamie Redknapp and Alan Shearer on one week.

    That'd get the changes rolling.

Oh god, I'm cringing just thinking about it.

"That was a goal Jamie, it really was"

"Too right Alan, that was a top, top goal"

"Right, with the analysis done, let's move on to..."

I know it's good to expect the worst for Newcastle but I can't see us going down again. We are too big a club for it to happen and we are much better than we were when we did go down. A bottom half finish (lower), sure. But not relegation

The Guardian has missed the point of MotD. Its popularity and strength is everything it's criticized for. I hope it doesn't change.

How many times, Never say too big to go down!
  • Deleted user 3 January 2013 10:48:13
It's an utter nonsense to talk about being "too big a club" to go down. The very concept of being a "big club" is dubious for starters, but beyond that, the league doesn't give a fuck how many fans you have or what you've won in the past. It just cares about how many points you have.

Don't think you will go down FWIW but I suspect one big boy will. It's you, Sunderland or Villa.
