I'm sure he isn't so wooden off camera but any current player would have to be so careful to what they say on camera these days, no room for personality!

See the majority of post game interviews.

I like how they never actually answer the question. Just go straight to "yeah no, we played well, bit unlucky, that's football, to be fair" etc.

man, MoTD needs a reboot. Having Kompany being "bantered" by that twatasurus Hansen whilst twitchy was busy making his video CV was just shark-jumping.

Maybe the folks who rebooted Top Gear can do so with MoTD, keeping Lineker only.

But he makes good Walkers crisps ads.
Not too fused if he stays or goes. Just call it the Gary Neville show.

Lol, doesn't quite have the same appeal eh! Thank Fuck for Sky+, can't remember watching what passes for analysis in some time. But we've done this many times before....

It's a shame they go for 'personalities' rather than those who will give intelligent opinion. I'd rather they started looking further afield - why not get an ex-scout or opta type perso in as one person, another who has coached (not like Harry, I mean the more...intellectual coach type) and a real journalist.

As it is, no one on the set in front of the camera provides more insight than your drunk mate after a few pints.

It's alright really. It's not perfect but I think it generally pitches itself about right. I would quite like a slightly higher brow footie show as well though.

You hope he will buy your top scorer?
yeah. I'd wager he's cost us more goals/goal-scoring opps due to poor touch, positioning and general poor all round play than he's actually scored goals. The difference Adebayor makes, or any other quality striker would make, to the team is marked.

    Cash in. Get rid.

Very little of the analysis is worth listening to. Case in point, the Ade sending off on Saturday went a little like:

'Well it was obvious wasn't it. We said before the start he was too emotional and that this could happen'
'Yes, we did. He just didn't seem focussed enough'
'Yes, you're right. Not focussed. And too emotional. That tackle was too emotionally charged'
'You're right. Too emotionally charged. His head was all over the place, and he just lost it right there'.

No, you're wrong. I tell you what that challenge was. That challenge was a strikers challenge. A lanky strikers challenge. That challenge was a striker, possibly with a score to settle/point to prove really wanting to do well and win every 50/50 timing it really badly because, well fuck me, he's a striker. Who isn't very good at tackling. Who made a badly timed, wreckless challenge.

Yes it was a sending off (he left the ground, so it had to be, and there was quite a lot of force) but his eyes were on the ball the whole time and it was just half a second too late.

I still maintain the RVP challenge from the other week was worse; his face was contorted and he was extremely late - that looked like a challenge he wanted to make and leave a mark for some reason. Ade's was technically a red card, and still dangerous, but without the malicious intent. So quite where they got all the bile they were spouting from I just don't know.

Says Tottenham fan about show with obvious Tottenham bias ;P

But, as Dougs points out, MOTD had been critiqued in this thread many times. We all know it needs wholesale changes; unfortunately none of us are in a position to instigate them.

    Why look, it's a blog:

    @kentmonkey WTF km?
We all know Ade's "not that sort of player".

Well, he is. But I don't think he was on this one. He didn't look filled with rage or going in to break a leg. He just looked like a gangly forward who couldn't tackle. Couldn't see what Sky were going on about.

A lot of noise coming from Twitter that Hughes has been sacked.

It's just lowest common denominator stuff. And is way too pally with its old boys club. But I appreciate the argument that not everyone wants an in depth tactical look every week.

My biggest issue with it is there's usually at least one pundit on there who offers absolutely no insight. Shearer is one of the best strikers ever, yet all he does is state the obvious and literally describe what we're already watching. Lawro isn't much better either. It's just dead air whenever they open their mouths.

I assume most of us are just happy enough seeing the highlights, can take or leave the rest of the show personally. I don't hate it but I don't think it's very good.

Sure but I don't think anyone wants 3 people on their TV giving insight such as 'he kicked the ball good there' for 5 minutes between each game.

Aye, there should because balance for sure. As I've said before, all I want is for them to tell me something that I wouldn't know as a fan. Maybe we're over estimating what "the common man" wants though.

You think anyone is watching it for the 'insight' rather than just putting up with it so they can see the football?

Viewing figures aren't that impressive anyway.

Ha, GNev analysing Stoke's goal was a case in point. Wouldn't have spotted any of that, I Hansen etc would have moaned about zonal marking.

Jesus, Neville lavishing praise on a set piece based entirely around a foul.

I think Gary Neville is probably the best pundit working at the moment. It hurts me to say that as a Liverpool fan. The contrast between him and Redknapp (either one) is startling.
