People are stupid, it's true. It doesn't mean it's all right to set up companies like Wonga or Crazy Dave's High-Interest Furniture Barn to exploit them. If your business model involves making poor people even poorer, you're a bit of a cunt.

And if you're a bit of a cunt and you make your money exploiting people who are some combination of poor/desperate/stupid then I don't approve of you.

There are a lot of payday loan companies, true. They're mostly dodgy, and Wonga are at the high end of the spectrum of interest charged. They do a lot of advertising though, so they make a great deal of money off people who don't shop around.

If it were my football team, being associated with Wonga would leave a sour taste.
    Aye. Yep. Yah. Da.

Sports Direct are remaining a commercial partner so we get to keep our sneaky funding too.

The Muslim Council of GB have advised Newcastle's Muslim players (Ba, Cisse, Tiote, Ben Arfa) not to wear the shirts as Wonga's lending is incompatible with Sharia law (though surely the same applied to Northern Rock/Virgin Money who I don't believe have any Sharia accounts).

Certainly one of them, for all his faults, he is an excellent player.

AVB to risk upsetting Lloris by recalling Friedel for crunch Chelsea clash

Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas is set to cast more uncertainty on his goalkeeping quandary by recalling Brad Friedel for the League game with Chelsea a week on Saturday.
The Americanís run of 310 consecutive Premier League games came to an end last Sunday when he was dropped in place of France international Hugo Lloris for the 2-0 victory over Aston Villa.

However, Sportsmail understands Villas-Boas is planning to recall Friedel for his revenge mission against Chelsea, who sacked him last season.
Lloris pleaded with Villas-Boas to keep faith in him but looks set to be disappointed. Friedel was frustrated by the decision to axe him for the Villa game, while it is believed a clutch of Spurs players were also stunned by the choice.
The press really do have an obsession with this. Literally whichever goalkeeper he plays, it's a negative press story.

I like the word 'pleaded'. It creates such wonderful imagery of Lloris prostrate at AVBs feet.

It's so fucking boring. Aside from obviously being talented, his fuck-up could and probably should have made our day a lot harder last Sunday. Can't afford to do that against Chelsea, and we've got a keeper who hasn't done anything like that in reserve. If I was manager, I'd play Friedal too.

    Fucking press bollocks.

Only thing against him is that he's getting on a bit now and is starting to lose that pace. Chelsea still haven't offered him a new deal, out of contract at the end of the season....

The Spurs/Keeper thing is ridiculous. Idiotic gutter press.

    ARSENAL
    * In 61 minutes on the pitch against West Ham, Gervinho attempted just 19 passes (14 of which found their target), no crosses, completed no successful dribbles, created no chances and tried no shots.
    * Mikel Arteta attempted 111 passes on Saturday. West Ham's midfield five attempted 122.
    * Santi Cazorla tried a whopping 17 crosses against West Ham.

    Gervinilol.

A deadline day panic buy leading to a club having too many goalkeepers?

Yeah, who needs a second goalkeeper when you're main one is in his mid-sixties. Ridiculous panic buy.

They also have Gomes and Cudicini who are both better then most premier league teams back up keepers

Gomes was supposed to leave and Cudicini is also well old. We clearly needed a new longterm number 1. It's far from a panic buy, not least because we worked on it all window.

Massive panic buy. Cudicini and Friedel still have a good 6-7 years in them. Pointless signing.

I didn't realise Gomes was supposed to leave, I guess he is probably seeing out a decent contract from when he was no. 1.

Friedel shouldn't really be this good at 41 but to me it looks like if anything he has improved over the last few years and didn't need replacing yet. If Lloris is going to be in and out the team this season he probably would have been better off staying at Lyon. Its not as if goalkeeping is a job that changes from club to club.
I can understand the annoyance Spurs fans have though with the media not dropping the story.

You're trying way too hard to criticise that signing. It made total sense from Spurs' perspective.
