It's not going to end until you, effectively, ban people from talking about officials.

    He totally called it

It's unfortunate the only pople to comment so far are Spurs fans, but I suspect it's a coincidence. Would be very surprised if the wider community didn't also recognise this for what it blatantly is.
I think we can all agree that I'm not a Spurs fan, but I endorse this comment and the one before it.

Absolutely disgusting. Any other manager saying that about Foy after the game would get an FA charge. Never seen a ref get bumped down THREE divisions before. Foy wasn't even that bad, only call he got wrong IMO was the Vertonghen shirt pull on Nani.

    Again, disgusting.

Foy hasn't reffed below PL level for 6 years. Being demoted to the Championship would raise eyebrows but LEAGUE TWO. Fucking hell.

Not sure if this has been brought up here but there was an interesting letter in F365 that mooted the idea of hiring foreign refs. What do people think?

I think it makes sense. We have the best players in the world, why not have the best refs? If a referee is widely known to be a good referee (like Colina), why not have them referee in the Best League In The World (TM).

I also, genuinely, think there is something in the 'refs support english players more than foreigners' thing. Not maliciously or deliberately, but if a ref has been officiating matches with John Terry for 5 years and knows he will have to for another 3 years, I can see why that might subconsciously affect some decision making. Especially with English players rarely being sold abroad, refs might be conscious of the fact they will have to deal with them for years, where as foreign players come and go.

Don't want to make that last part seem more important than I mean it to be, but I'm well up for foreign refs,

Foreign refs aren't any better than the refs we have.
  • Deleted user 2 October 2012 18:36:31
England probably have the best refs in the world. Look around the CL this week and watch some fuckin stinkers.

Yup, La Liga's refs are woeful, though at least they might not be as influenced by Fergie since they won't understand him

Oh bear in mind I wasn't talking about foriegn refs for foreign refs sake, I'm just talking about buying in the best officials, of which I doubt are all English.
  • Deleted user 2 October 2012 18:41:29
Would kinda leave the rest of the world a bit short on refs

Most probably are though. All for the best officials but suspect it's not as easy as that with FIFA lists and so on. My biggest gripe about refs is that they're too close to the players and managers.

Malle. Fergie has a lot of influence over refs. Not saying it's right, but it's a fact. The sooner that everyone accepts it, the sooner we can all move on.

Utd get a disproportionate amount of decisions. So what?

Was that a Freudian slip, is it possible you know something about Mark Halsey that the rest of us dont?

You are a factory of sadness.

I was thinking back to our game against Stoke last seaosn that Foy referred. Adebayor had a goal dissalowed when he was over a yard onsiude, we had two stonewall penalties turned down and Kaboul got harshly sent off. We lost 2-1.

It was such a ridiclously poor referreing decision that Redknapp had a (fairly unsual) Graham Poll came out against Foy. It was a pretty high profile event in terms of bad referring and one of the worst I've ever seen.

Foy got no punishment at all and Harry got a warning from the FA.

Chris Hoy didn't come out of it that well either.

Some pretty shit refereeing in our game at Fulhum the other day, surprised they're not on some sort of performance table.

Yeah, I actually sent Chris Foy a little tweet of congratulations when he won his gold medal this summer.

On a related note, Martinez has been fined 10k by the FA for these comments.

Watching a Man U / Spurs replay at the moment. Totally impartial view - Man U supporters don't half talk a load of shite.

LB, you really are a massive geek.

On a slightly different note, I thought RvP's comments about wanting more assists yesterday was interesting. I reckon there's a bit of tension between him and Rooney. The question put to him was something like "So the future seems to be Rooney as provider and you as goalscorer" and it made him squirm a bit.

Meh, wouldn't read too much into it; came across to me that he's just not overly happy with his performances so far. Yes he's scoring goals but I think he wants to contribute more overall.

He seems to be the kind of player who would be unhappy to "just be a goalscorer" imo. It's the Dutch way, he wants to be an all round player helping the team by creating and scoring.

Rooney's first word when he was asked the same questions was "No"!

    His next word was Yeah

    Come and get it cumslingers!
