Arsenal making a lot of signings. They could do well next season.

Yeah I reckon soldado will come good this year. I'd be more than happy with a front 3 of soldado, remy and lamela.

Remys contract is supposedly structured so it's only 8 mil for teams in the Champions league, 12 for whoever finished 5th & 6th and 15 for anyone else.

I think those numbers are right, will try and find a link.

    @neilqpr

If he's failed a medical at another club, that'll not have a good effect on his value. QPR are well entitled to stick to their policy in this matter though, but interested clubs will surely use his failed medical to drive down the price in negotiations.

It's more about his wages than his fee I think. Wouldn't be surprised if clubs start trying to get pay-as-you-play type deals.

@Syrette But the release clause value is arguably already below market value. Don't see Fernandes taking anything less, we'd be better off keeping him.

As Kalel says the wages are probably a bigger issue, he doesn't want to take a pay cut from his 80k.

We lost to Leicester today. Quite clearly the world has gone mad.

    I fucking hope so.

Lovren deal done, Liverpool's takeover of Southampton continues.

How much is that Liverpool have spent now then?

It does feel remarkably similar to the approach Spurs took last summer. This season will show whether that's a good thing or a bad thing I suppose.

That Southampton vs. Southampton opening day fixture should be a cracker.

What approach is that? Sell a player for loads, then buy some other players? That is such a zany thing to do for a football team!

Well happy with Lovren as everyone and theirs dogs have known for yonks that Liverpool's weakness' stem from the back. Hope he can fill that gap.

Bit disappointed about Remy but if it is down to heart problems then it's probably a wise choice. Explains the low as fuck price tag too.

Looking forward to seeing how Lazar fit's in tonight and very glad to hear Can is in the starting lineup after his injury scare last game. Think the later will be a huge addition for us.

@TVoJ looking forward to seeing both Can and Markovic tonight, from the little I've seen of Can so far he looks like he could be some player.

It's more the "let's spunk it all at once" thing that doesn't sit quite right. Adding at least 5 starters (probably at least a couple more) is going to upset the balance a bit. It's a cliche but they are actually people who now have to get used to different cultures/managers/players.

That said Arsenal have already signed 2 starters (maybe 3 if Ospina impresses) and could add more so I may be in a glass house here but it does seem to have an impact.

I had to watch that five times to figure out where the ball had gone. Looked like he had absorbed it.

He's worse than Heskey, Emile would at least get you a penalty.

    Wow, just wow.
Os there any other player to have such a dramatic and swift fall from grace as he?
Arguably one of the best strikers in the world at one point, now with a form that's on the level of relegation fodder. And he's barely past 30.

Torres has an impressive collection of medals tbf. World Cup, 2 European Championships, FA Cup, Europa League and Champions League. He was a passenger for some of those but it's still an impressive haul for a player who's underachieved of late.

Mendieta is the only other one I can think of. He had been one of the best wingers in the world for a couple of years when he left Valencia but utterly bombed in Italy for Lazio after a huge transfer fee. Loaned to Barcelona for the following season where he was pretty average and stayed at that level for the rest of his career.

You could argue Juan Veron, his reputation in Italy was bigger than Zidane when he left for Utd. I think he just wasn't suited to the premiership. You could still see that Veron was technically fantastic.

With Torres and Mendieta, it just feels unreal because the drop-off in quality is just so profound, I have trouble believing what I'm seeing.

Eerie parallels with Shevchenko, who had an Indian summer when he eventually returned to Dynamo, which leads to the inevitable conclusion that Torres should get back to Atletico.
