I will join you in the sobs. If Senderos is the Vlaar replacement then we are probably down.

You are a factory of sadness.

    Hey! Have some faith

I will be proudly wearing my Senderos shirt when you play spurs next year

Oh I believe he will be okay but replacing Vlaar with Senderos is like replacing fine wine with vinegar.

You are a factory of sadness.

Senderos is a better educated Titus Bramble

He played really well last night

After days of Tim Sherwood being all but confirmed as the new boss, West Brom confirm that their new head coach is... Alan Irvine.

The sticking point for West Brom with Sherwood was the wages Sherwood wanted for the two staff (Les Ferdinand and Chris Ramsey) he was going to bring with him, but they must have been miles apart if Jeremy Peace decided to go with Irvine instead of Sherwood.

It's a 12-month rolling contract, anyway. I wonder what this means for Sherwood, too. Who's still without a manager?

That's a very odd one, has he been anywhere near the top divisions at all in recent history? I can only think that he's been at Sheff Wed?

Sheff Wednesday was his last proper managerial job, but since 2011 he's been manager of the academy at Everton. No idea how good a job he's done there (Everton fans?), but supposedly we're trying to bring some of our youngsters through, so maybe that played a part.

Ah right, fair enough. Maybe a good one then if he's got a track record of working well with the academy.

He was at Preston too. Nice guy, but we're just as surprised as WBA fans.

I think Tim Sherwood would have been a better bet but fair play to WBA for giving him a chance.

@thedaveeyres The fact that we still have literally zero senior full-backs and are currently down 9 senior players compared to last season doesn't help.

10 out: Steven Reid, Ridgewell, Lugano, Gera, Popov, Sinclair, Amalfitano, Vydra, Thievy, Billy Jones. Also Scott Allan, but he never played for us, so I'm not counting him. Ridgewell and Popov were our left backs, and Reid and Jones were our right backs.

Meanwhile, the only player in so far is Craig Gardner.

Vermaelen to Utd then? What do Utd fans think of that if it happens (I don't think it will personally)

I do think it will happen and I hope it doesn't. Not the sort of defender we need, he's good on the ball and going forward but always suspect to get caught out. And after his very good first season I always felt he's been overrated. Plus he's a bit of a crock.

Need an experience commanding cb to replace Vidic.

Verm is experienced and pretty commanding. He's just also prone to the odd walkabout. But you can't fault his commitment and scores important goals.

He should be a good squad player for Arsenal, not a rival. I appreciate that at the moment he would probably command a starting spot for them, while he can't force a way back in here.

    Grr.

I suspect he's also been offered a rather large payrise too.

The thing is with being a good squad player is that the team is full of them and why we found ourselves 7th. We need players that can go straight into the first team.

Vermalen isn't a massive improvement of what we already have.

Hasn't Koeman been a bit of a flop in most of the places he's been? Has a bit of a reputation for starting decently but tailing off pretty steeply.

I still haven't forgiven him for that game before the '94 WC. His name makes my blood boil.

Getting to the point where I expect Arsenal players signing for rivals as the norm.
