Good, scandalous the way it's been dealt with.

Okay, cards on the table, I'm an Ipswich fan, that situation is completely

Fucking brilliant, am loving the fact the Budgies will go down bitter.

Anyone else heard the rumour about Pardew working for (relative) peanuts to cover his gambling debts to Ashley?

Yeah the gambling debt thing has been fairly common knowledge up here for a while

Fish fingers and chips pretty straight forward.

Just been watching the Spurs highlights. God Adebayor should be ashamed of his defending in the wall. It's incredible how he's a world beater for 5 games whenever he changes club or gets a new manager then completely loses interest. What a waste of talent.

I appreciate this is hardly a revelation but it still astounds me.

Not really. They were completely up front and brought it up themselves when the problem became apparent.

They were stupid but not dishonest. I really wouldnt call that scandalous.

Thought so. Came up on an Arsenal podcast I listen to with Alan Davies (his in laws are from Newcastle). Mental.

Think the punishment is quite scandalous, given the precedents set.

What I hadn't realised is that the rules allow for that. As they lost all games, there ere no points to forfeit and the rules say a points levy only may be applied. Don't know whether any of the other clubs that had points deducted also lost all games an ineligible player played in...

I meant the way it's been dealt with by the FA - punishment obviously far far too light given multiple precedents, and handed out very quietly in private, only coming to light thanks to a leak to a journalist. Clubs have been relegated or denied promotion for far less.

They lost three of the four games he played in. They got fined and that is correct. Sure if they played Ronaldo for four games and won every game then maybe that would be different.
It was a mistake by sunderland on the paper work side and when they knew about it they reported it.
Just toys out prams by the clubs who haven't had the balls to nearly beat city away, beat chelsea and Manchester united away.

TBH I'd rather Norwich go down. We'll win the league next season if they do. And you are right, they are out of the drop zone because of merit. But should still be deducted that point.

The fact the premier league were desperate to keep it quiet suggests it wasn't all above board.

Well could argue more that it wouldn't provoke expensive and ultimately frivolous lawsuits. We're talking here about a basic admin error from a single individual, not some conniving attempt to cheat games.

It's one thing not to make a big deal of some thing, another to actively try and hide it.

Does make you wonder what else they've done that for.

Only 10 paragraphs in do they actually explain why he was ineligible.

    Great journalism.

Lol, they've tried to sweep this under carpet like it never happend. Wimbeldon got docked points for fielding an eligble player for one game. It won't make and ounce of difference for us ( and gald we got relegated) but Sunderland got off shockingly llightly

It has nothing to do with being 'good enough' Sunderland broke the rules and should be dealt with properly rather than half arsed. Even Gus Poyet admitted his suprise.

West Ham got away with breaking the rules so why should Sunderland be punished. Opening up a can of worms.

West Ham's was a much bigger crime playing 2 world class players who kept them up single handedly. Can't really say the same with the Sunderland situation.
