Rafael was one of the best fullbacks in the prem last season. Left back is probably the place that needs most work.

You are a factory of sadness.

Back pages saying van Persie is happy and wants a new deal. He's not daft eh?

I'm really not sure there's anything to forgive. He's doing a better job with the same players. He's replaced a striker who doesn't score with one who does (and who leads). He's bringing young players in, building a future. Maybe he's tactically naive -I don't know enough to know-but maybe the coaching side needs improving there.

Is there a lot of opinion going against him now? He doesn't seem to be a good job of communicating via the press.

I don’t think there is anything to forgive as such. He is doing an ok job all things considered but is clearly not the man for the job long term.

Even if he does manage to get top 4, he'll still be replaced by a van gaal or klinsmann in the summer.

Ozil out for up to 6 weeks with hamstring twang.

    Will they notice? :-P

When you can't see the angles on the wall you're in trouble.

More than once, but my point was more that he knows he's got Utd over the same barrel that Rooney had and he can bank on a nice big pay rise.

Rooney has age on his side. RVP does not.

Sell him if he kicks up a stink next season.

    Come and get it cumslingers!

I love this picture of Chelsea's defense:

I think we've only let in 4 goals in the past 12 Premier League games or something like that, crazy.

(edit) Damn, that is horrible news about Ozil... Arsenal aren't having any luck at all with injuries lately :(

    Anelka quits West Brom

"Following discussions between the club and I, there was a proposal made that I would be re-integrated into the squad under certain conditions that I can't accept," he wrote on Twitter.

"Wishing to maintain my integrity, I have therefore decided to free myself and put an end to my contract that ties me to WBA until 2014 as of now."
Wonder what conditions he's referring to...

Well recent history has shown you reward scrappy brat CFs that kick up a stink.
Tbh, I think both Rooney and RvP have about the same shelf life left; 3 or so years of top quality play left.

I'd have him back for the final five games of the season on a short term deal. Which says a LOT about the back-ups to Giroud.

Won't happen though, and probably for other very good reasons.

    Albion update on Anelka contract

FURTHER to the statement issued earlier this evening, the Club notes Nicolas Anelka is unwilling to agree to the conditions set by it which may have enabled his suspension to be lifted and for him to resume training.

These conditions were, firstly, that the Club required Nicolas Anelka to apologise to it, its supporters, sponsors and the wider community for the impact and consequences of his gesture made on December 28 and secondly, that he accept a substantial fine.

Nicolas Anelka’s purported termination of his Premier League contract this evening via Social Media was invalid as this was not conducted under the correct legal process as required by his contract.

The Club considers the conduct of Nicolas Anelka on December 28, coupled with his purported termination on Social Media this evening, to be gross misconduct.

As a result the Club has tonight written to Nicolas Anelka giving him 14 days’ notice of termination as required under his contract.
A reverse of the old "You can't fire me! I quit!" then, basically. At least we now know what the supposed conditions he couldn't agree to were though.

I suspect this is more to do with compensation etc. Gross misconduct will leave Albion free to sack him and pay him nothing.

Though him quitting should have the same result really.

It's probably more to do with WBA wanting to retain some dignity and sending out a message that they won't be dictated to by a player who they stood by until he was found "guilty" and made a seemingly reasonable request from him so that they could move on from this whole sorry affair.

Not paid much attention to all this, but Anelka has always been somewhat petulant iirc. Just it seem's he is now throwing antisemitism into the mix , which is.........an interesting career choice. It worked so well for Mel Gibson, after all.
