    That's proper tin-foil hat stuff!

Maybe, just maybe Liverpool played better?

They did, but after our offside trap was broken for the 15th time in the first 20mins, why not instruct the players to sit deeper?

Not really. Its got 'caretaker' written all over it and he was a safe-ish pair of hands until the end of the season where they will appoint someone after the traditional post-world cup shuffle.

Tbh, if you consider that they probably wrote off the season, its reasonably sensible.

@morriss I've heard this in various places.

What I can't fathom is *why*? What was in it for him to fail again? To a young manager in his position success is surely more important than a payout?

Apparently Bendtner is in trouble for dry humping a taxi in Copenhagen the other day.

    He's a very strange guy.

Martinez and Wenger were obviously bought off by Liverpool too.

That was strange. He had his won agenda and the interest of the team was secondary.
Why did he want out though? He got given cash i the summer, unless the DoF was buying players he wasn't happy with.
At the time the Telegraph said AVB wanted out because Levy had let PSG talk to him. Wasn't the kind of backing he was after.

@Tom_Servo If that's true that is ridiculous.

I really don't give these conspiracy theories any credence. They inevitably start on message boards, either through pure speculation or some supposed ITK with a personal agenda.

There's one or two genuine ITKs around, and they give this sort of stuff very short shrift.

Summer transfers should be a hoot. Man City and Man Utd. Spurs revamp. Liverpool Champions League money. Chelsea striker hunt and why not transfers. Arsenal buy a striker ffs. World Cup crazy time. Someone will get a Diouf.

There's going to be a serious scrap over half decent centre backs. Seems everyone is in the market for one of those.

    Brap, brap, old chap.

Think Liverpool did very well to get Sakho when they did. Although can't remember how much it cost them.

How many quality centre backs are there? Don't seem to be many around any more.
  • Deleted user 13 March 2014 13:52:14
In theory we're in a good place with CBs. If Verts, Kaboul and Cheriches were all fit we'd be spoilt for choice.

    Shame none are ever fit.

I'm worried about someone coming in for Lovren. He's been quality this season.

Yeah it'll be interesting to see who United and City go for. Vertonghen? Hummels?

Ah yeah, very true. Gotta be City since they nearly signed him in January.

With united in to replace vidic and, possibly, rio, theres never been a better time to be the least glamourous player on the pitch.

    (goalies dont count).

The theory AVB wanted out was from ITK. Proper ITK. The Liverpool thing is conjecture that I made up.

I was thinking it quite likely that we might come in for him during the summer. Looks a class act to me.

Don't even know of United will go all out to sign a new CB. So much potential with Jones, Evans, Smalling and Micheal Keane. What we need is a settled back four playing in front of De Gea. He has never had that at all since coming in and it surely would help any teams defence.

I reckon we're more likely to go for the likes of Lovren and possibly some other slightly less well known but still highly rated (and maybe represented by Jorge Mendes) centre backs than Hummels or Vertonghen.
  • Deleted user 13 March 2014 14:30:00
    So much potential lols.

Maybe, they're 3 of the best young CBs in the country though, and if be shocked if Smalling and Jones don't end up as England's CB partnership within the next 3/4 years.

The Dante rumours in January were interesting though. Could never complain about a CB of that quality coming in.

We will almost certainly go for an unknown or two from the French leagues. AW HATES spending big money on defenders, so it'll be 10-15m on someone with some vague credentials, and 3-8m on a 21-22 year old with "potential"

What games have you seen this potential in? Evans, Jones and Smalling are all poor, Vidic is going, Ferdinand is finished and you think you dont need a centre back. Crazy

Fixed, and that really isn't saying much.
