What better way to get people from liverpool reading the sun again than outing one of their players?

    Probably lots, tbh..

I think fans will allright with this to be honest. Being openly gay is not that big a deal in British culture anymore.

I do wonder about players though. The Premier League is incredibly culturally diverse, and some players will no doubt have religous or cultural backgrounds that oppose homosexuality...? Maybe...? Although, I suppose as professionals they would have to shut up and deal with it,whatever their private views...

It's more likely than not utter bollocks btw, although the Sun haven't denied it, but they probably just want the sales.

Fans may be alright with this, but do you honestly think that it wont lead to loads of baying chants at games related to that players sexuality? And that it may not have a psychological effect on the player?

Fans don't generally abuse a specific player unless that player has done something wrong or previously done something wrong(eg RvP / Cole / Adebayor / Shawcunt), but in this case, the player would get abused for having done nothing wrong, just because its easy, or because we can make up a funny chant.

Doubt it to be honest. Apart from at Stoke obviously.

Indeed - see Brighton. Football fans, when together, are generally cunts and mob mentality rules. I'm not remotely homophobic but have joined in chants and laughs to the Cashley songs and even ribbed Brighton a few times.

I hope it's not Cole or someone who gets loads of abuse anyway. As next time he gets it the press will be calling us all homophobic even when you might have been just calling him a cheat or something.

Anything that ruffles the plastic feathers of SSN is great news. Unfortunately, everything outside of boring blandness ruffles their feathers...

Also, why would the gay footballer have to be the one that's a bit camp? Le Saux we forget!

Heh most of the cole abuse is already homophobic anyway.

Some of it even spreads to other players, chanting "ashleys boyfriend ashleys boyfriend" at jermaine pennant for example.

I know its wrong but it always draws a chuckle from me.

    @THFourteen

There's nowt wrong with a funny chant. God knows how we are going to be able to differentiate 'a funny chant' and 'homophobic abuse' though...

I guess a lot of how it pan out will come down to the player. If they deal with any abuse well, then it will be pretty inspirational. (remember John Barnes back-heeling the banana that was thrown onto the pitch..? That just seemed like the coolest thing to me, as a kid, at the time...)

You can get arrested for singing 'We can see you holding hands.' at Brighton fans so don't expect much room for 'funny chants'.

Yeah Brighton fans have been lobbying the FA and Police for a few years now and some people have been arrested for chanting at games.

When we played Brighton last year the Police told fans before the game that no homophobic chanting will be tolerated.

Yehman. This is football's 'Brookside Kiss'.

Except we don't know who it's going to be. So it's like the 'Brookside Kiss' crossed with 'Who Shot JR'.

    Football is ace.

I like playing the Bristol teams. I think everyone can get behind chanting about incest.

This Sun story will equate to something like Rooney catching a crafty glance at Hart's cock whilst in the shower.

Sunday Sun: ENGLAND MEGA STAR IS TEH GAY!

    Hated, adored, never ignored.

    Oxlade Chamberlain.

In a way, I really hope it is, because it'd be great if someway somebody within the club I support did something about the frankly prehistoric attitude that the press/some fans/the sport in general has about a person's sexual preference.

Any reason for the aggression/numptiness or just having a bad day?
