I don't really see how location can be the issue. Why would that suddenly create a lack of passion now when it never did in the past?

You're not over his departure yet?

I just remember it being more fun when the team were on tour and I know from experience that Wembley is horrible to get to. Playing at different grounds you open up availability to a much wider range of people who can't/won't travel to London and thus end up with a less jaded crowd. I don't have any figures to back this up, but it makes sense to me. The team represents the whole country, not just London and it should recognise that.

If I had to travel through Wembley to get to the stadium I wouldn't be very excited about the match by the time I actually took my seat. It's a pretty hateful place.
  • Deleted user 15 October 2013 18:22:32
    Yeah, it is pretty grim

Lovely free kick from Ward-Prowse there.

Is Wembley really more difficult to get to than many other stadiums if you're travelling from a bit further afield? The tube seems to cope fine with the crowds.
It's frankly probably a bit easier to get to from slightly further afield than from inside London itself. One of the quirks of London is that it's often easier to get into, than it is to get around in.

I live in North London myself, only about 7 miles from Wembley in fact, yet it can easily take me two or three hours to get to or from a game there.

I've only been to Wembley once. Cardiff Liverpool league cup a couple of years back.

Drove in to Slough from Cardiff (well my mate drove) then tubed it to the stadium.

    It wasn't hard at all.

Also top tip for getting a bevvy when all the shops close the fridges (this is really weird btw). Go to Wimpey and get beer in a cup.

    edit crap spelling

It wouldn't be so bad if the infrastructure had been upgraded as expected. But it hasn't, it's a pain in the arse to get to and from, and there's fuck all in the way of pubs nearby. Those that are, are rammed. Have to say, I did enjoy the trips round the country. Some memorable nights out in Manchester and Newcastle.

I don't mind the games being based in London but I'd like to think it was in an area that shows off our capital more.

The best bits of London are beautiful.

Anyone watching the U-21 game? Morrison and Zaha are supposed to be playing brilliant.

I forgot that Zaha even plays for us until just then to be honest. Another player there's no point whatsoever in us having.

If you live in Wembley, although I am not sure going to see England boreathons is worth it ;-) if I tried to get there from where I live it would take ages. Not to mention if there were transport problems!
  • Deleted user 15 October 2013 19:37:58
Two tube stops away for me, really easy to get too.

Getting to Wembley via public transport on a busy day like a cup final or England game is a mare.
Heck even driving near it on a normal day is absolutely torturous (A406).

Did you watch it? He was absolutely dreadful. No touch and ran around like a dog chasing a squirrel.

It's still bizarre that he even starts for England. How many years do we have to waste on him before they accept that he has reached his peak and isn't going to magically get better?
  • Deleted user 16 October 2013 10:10:57
He chases the ball down, wins it ,holds the ball up, keeps the ball and he's shit.

Yes he missed a great chance but he did more.

He worked his fucking socks off, did far more than everyone's current favourite, Sturridge.
  • Deleted user 16 October 2013 10:12:06
Sturridge scores goals, though. For club anyway. That does help.

I think we must have been watching a different match.

I'm not convinced Sturridge is all that either. Reminds me a lot of Darius Vassell.

I swear you could google some of these defences of Wellshit and come up with identical comments for Frazier Campbell from a few years back.

I said it about two seasons ago: he'll end up playing for a Steve Bruce team before long. Back then it was Sunderland, but Hull will do.
