So we have resorted to discussion Marketing ploys, Red Bull and cunt reps?

    Really need normal football back.

So what's this about Rooney rejected negotiation talks? And Suarez still looking to leave?

The England match is tonight so that'll get us all excited. Excited may not be the correct word, suggestions please!

You are a factory of sadness.

Apprehensive is the correct term when describing England.

Will we definitely be seeded should we finish 2nd?

    Apathetic

Fish fingers and chips pretty straight forward.

It's hard to choose between apathetic and uninterested. Both seem apt.

Its why they gave the poles so many tickets. I dont think it was anywhere near being a sellout.

Yup. Great read here about final qualifying fixtures back when international football used to be interesting,

Ha, yeah, that was painfully obvious by their "safety" line. There are bound to be some that didn't get them as part of the 18k and will end up in with the England fans.

Odd though, win a game against a team with nothing to play for and we qualify. We should be excited. These were the games I loved, but I can't get as into it as I once was. Not sure what's changed either, most of the players are still playing and I don't have much against any of the relative newcomers

Edit: Hmm, should have read the link above.

'Do I not like that' or whatever its called should be required viewing. It makes our current qualifying campaigns look amazing.

That link summarises a lot of what I feel about a lot of football, not just international.

Rightly and/or wrongly, I feel that, contrary to the relentless Sky hype and incessant talking about football, and even partly because of it, football has become less and less genuinely interesting for me. I just don't get very excited about it. But I still consume all the crap that is written, just to fill columns/air time for idiots like me.

It goes in cycles for me. Sometimes I get utterly put off by the hype and ubiquity and the skysportsism of football. And then, a few months later, I see such a compelling game of football that I'm right back in the zone; breating in everything football.

I consider myself very privileged to regularly go to actual football games. It's really the only way you can properly engage with an actual game, as opposed to the narrative that commentators and TV cameras weave around it.

I think that's what's at the heart of my apathy with England. I last went to watch them during the 2006 WC. I then moved away from London, as did my mates I went with and it became harder to justify the time and expense of following them around Europe. And so my interest died a little. I am a bit nervous though

It is strange, in consideration of that video, how easy a ride Hodgson has had in comparison. The media seem consigned to the situation as it is, either that or they realise the public aren't really interested in the same stance that the papers used to have against the English manager.

You are a factory of sadness.

Definitely this, I must go to some games once I get some cash. Nothing gets close to being there at the game.

I'd imagine the memories of watching England in the past are better than the current reality. England games at the new Wembley feel like one big family section and lack any real passion, atmosphere or excitement.

Not to mention being forced to listen to that fucking band.
  • Deleted user 15 October 2013 17:05:20
Yeah fuck England, I ended up watching Ladyhawk with Rutger Hauer on Saturday afternoon.

    I lead a rich life.

I'm much more excited about Iceland or Bosnia & Herzegovina going through than England.

I dunno, I watched some proper rubbish during the 90s and 2000s. Pretty much went to every home game in that time and the old Wembley was rarely a happy experience. Better when they went on the road, funnily enough

Actually come to think of it my growing apathy towards England started around the time that cunting band started playing

Yeah, the band are rolled up in my head with the general 'eurgh' side of football that makes me actively ignore it.

    ITV doesn't help, either.
  • Deleted user 15 October 2013 17:19:02
Old Wembley gets romanticised, but new Wembley is definitely shit. I genuinely hate it. Every time I've gone I've had a bad experience, including when I saw my team win a cup final there.

It would be interesting to put people outside wembley to canvas england fans on whether they would like the england band killed or not.

I genuinely cant imagine you would get more than 2% of people who like them and thats with a 2% margin of error.
