Speaking of which, anyone heard the rumours that UEFA are looking for expand the Euros and turn it into a major challenger to FIFA's world cup?
Due to the growing separation between Blatter and Platini due to the constant corruption of FIFA, which resorted in Sebb and co trying to reduce the power of Europe in FIFA?

Quite frankly anything that can challenge the corruption FIFA gets my vote

Its already been expanded to a billion teams, I cant really see what else they could do to it.

(subsequently killing off why I prefer the euros to the WC).

Apparently they were thinking of inviting teams like Brazil to take part.

Well they plan to pretty much open it to all continents.
Ive actually preferred watching the Euros. Throw in the best SA and African teams, USA (they're shit but have a lot of media coverage) and its pretty much the world cup.

    Edit: What he said.

Fuck Fifa in the arse at every opportunity. Maybe they'll change then.

Or you know, Uefa could just leave Fifa...

Mental. Like nick, the Euros used to be awesome. 16 teams was a brilliant format.

If they do that, its going to be a poor mans world cup and an invitational format is open to even more corruption than ever. Thats absolutely insane.

I really feel like the international break has broken this season, for some reason it's even more noticeable than many years.

Would love to see Bergy come back to Arsenal and coach. Even if it was to coach the youngsters on how to be grounded individuals. The man is a fucking legend.

Edit: On rereading, im just waiting for the 'afraid to fly'/'grounded' jokes :p

Its, basically, because the nations enthusiasm for England has pretty much evaporated.

I'm sure we never had this many international breaks by this stage in the season before.
  • Deleted user 9 October 2013 12:11:02
Also, in a rare moment of warmth, can I just say I really really like you guys.

Just spent most of the morning arguing on a Spurs board, and it never fails to remind me how very high the bar is here.

We definitely never had one two weeks into the season. That is infuriating beyond reason.

It's making the season very stop/start, it's bloody annoying.

I am sick to death of this break already, and we haven't even missed a weekend of proper football because of it yet. Gads.

It looks like the dates are fairly consistent every year. England played on the 7th and 11th of Sept in 2012 for example.

The early breaks are quite recent, certainly only coming in the last few seasons.

But that would have been one break. We've already had two breaks 6 games in.

I read the Villa forums quite a bit and I'm so glad I can't remember my password as I fear I would lose my shit on there sometimes with the penchant for negativity and stupidity. Fan forums seem to feature the largest selection of bleating idiots, it staggers me some of the things I've read.

The page I linked to shows England results for games in the first week or two of September going back to at least 2003.

Best thing back when we were in League 1 was the lack of international breaks.

Always seems to be games in early October according to that page as well.

If only we could have a few months every year so all the international matches for the year are done at once.

Yep, it's the logical solution. I'm sure there's some back scratching cash generating reason they don't do it though.

Yeah it really does feel like more breaks than previous.
I mean the season started in August, we're nearly half way through October, and we've only played what? 6 games?

How are people feeling about Welshit's (Jack) England is for English people comments?

Hard not to simply read that he's threatened. Wonder how he feels about his mate Ozil playing for Germany.

IIRC there are always Sept and Oct fixtures for qualifiers, and a slot in Nov for play-off/friendly. The August game is relatively new but I think this year they played about with the timing because the season started a bit later.

I don't know Ozil's circumstances, but I doubt he meant players that moved here as kids and took British nationality.

It is a little silly that you can claim a player after just 5 years. Tevez was here that long and couldn't even speak English. That said, if I player says he "loves" a country enough to represent them over their homeland I don't really have an argument against why they should.
