That would be why most United fans rate Welbeck alright.
Was that also why United fans on here defended Frasier Cambell, Bebe and Djemba Djemba so vociferously?
Honestly can't remember who defended any of them. But as you say, best way to judge a player is by watching them every week, hence why those who watch all United games would be able to judge him better than those who watch match of the day.

I'd always take a fans opinion on a player over a neutrals plainly because they see more of them and most fans are realistic about their players.
But every other Man Utd game is live on TV...

You'll always up-sell your own players. You can't help it. And that is a general "you", not a Man Utd thing.

No one ever defended Djemba Djemba and Bebe was very quickly dismissed after an "initial give him time feeling".

    Come and get it cumslingers!

Veron, Kleberson, Djemba.. All players that showed great skill/potential before they signed but sadly somehow failed to make a (positive) impact.

Bit harsh to include Veron with the others. He was genuinely a class player, just not in England.

I thought Veron was pretty decent at United too. Maybe not as good as people expected him to be but he was hardly rubbish.

It must be very hard trying to see if a player will fit into your team. There are many players that are awesome at one club and rubbish at the next.

Scouts and managers that select players that are merely ok at one club but become something special at the next must be highly sort after.

I should damn well hope that's inflation when you consider the calibre of player's were comparing.

But then again, you didn't mean it that way did you nick?

@kalel Well yeah, but I thought the convo was about identifying KPIs?

I was just keeping things within context.

Also, I can imagine when making a scouting report, the scout isn't just gonna send hundred of endless hours of playtime, but you know, will have some "objective" reports too.

Edit: And as the last 2 pages have shown, simply watching a player leads to clear subjective reviews. Welshit being good for one.

Bebe was clearly shit but was given an extended "give it time" allowance that he would not have received if he played for Liverpool for instance.

same for Frazier Campbell and that shit frank lampard italian looking striker.

Welly is probably amazing in training, but goes to pieces when people are watching, hence the chances given to him.

That or Moyes and Fergie are just thick.

Sometimes as coaches or managers you have a bit more of an interest in developing a player. Essentially turning an average player yet seeing their potential and turning them into something great is the biggest ego trip and self-validation of their coaching skills. They have a vested interest in some players, their favourites whom they really want to see succeed.

I don't think that's the case with Moyes though. IMO, he's inhibited and clearly doesn't want to start making drastic changes in his first season, otherwise he could lose the team (see AVB at Cuntsea FC).

I wouldn't be surprised if by next season, he culls Valencia, Ashley Mong, Not-So-Clever-Ly, Welshit and starts phasing out Ferdinand.

What a good goal, Eriksen with a fantastic turn there

Edit; fully deserved too, Spurs looking far more threatening throughout so far.
