So although they did not get direct money, they got a very significant amount of indirect aid, which is a lot more valuable to such a development scheme. So let's leave the myopic tribalism to one side, there is no better club behaviour here.
Of course we benefitted from CPOs. Name me an infrastructure project of this size that doesn't. Haing worked with planning inspectors in infrastructure projects, by their very nature they are conservative, blocking plenty of reasonable projects. And from that report, it looks like we failed to build one sports centre. That's not bad from the full list of commitments, which go way beyond what we might be expected to do these days.

Which is the pertinent point I guess, times are different now with councils falling over themselves for any kind of investment. So whilst I accept spurs are putting cash into regeneration, it sticks in the craw a bit. I still have my doubts that they'll raise the rest of it on the open market though. I reckon it'll come down to Lewis loaning them it.

OMG I can't wait for proper football to come back this weekend. It absolutely fucking sucks to have the international break so early. Makes the season feel like it had a false start or something. Lost all momentum.

Aye, this one seems to have gone on forever. I bet Ozil can't wait for his rude awakening at the Stadium of Light!

I loved seeing Flamini back the other week. He was ace. And only a little dirty.

Even the worst matches in the Premiership are more entertaining than most International games these days. Good to have proper football back this weekend.

Its made me look forward to the winter break for the world cup *even* more than I already was.

A month over christmas with no football for two weeks either side is going to be awesome.

Most championship games are more interesting and of a better quality than international football.

Dunno, I think he'll be OK with some rest and treatment. One of the journos said he was OK, so fingers crossed. Rosicky is injured as is our only other fit forward in Sanogo.

Its looking more and more likely. More and more 'bodies' are coming around to the idea and its pretty much only the premier league, la liga and the bundesliga who are objecting to it.

Blatter has admitted he fucked up but they are *NOT* moving host countries.

So, barring a boycott from the major nations, its happening by the looks of it.

Oh I thought you meant a winter break before the the Brazil WC.

There was a time when everyone was clamouring for a break this winter. I thought it might have been agreed without me noticing.

No football on Boxing Day?! Not on my watch!
  • Deleted user 11 September 2013 11:51:10
I just don't buy it makes that much difference anyway. Enough foreign players play in our league and turn up in good form for the WC. Don't see why not having a break should have any more affect on the English players.

Always makes me giggle when people go on about a Winter Break and how players play too much football during a season....then as soon as the season finishes the clubs fly around the world playing promotional matches.

That's exactly what would happen with a winter break. Money spinning friendlies in the middle & far east whilst the fans back home are forced to actually pay attention at tedious family events over Christmas instead of just sitting watching teletext and drinking all the festive booze :-(

Shinji said the other day he wants people to ask Moyes why he doesn't play him. Sounds like he is desperate to play and feels very frustrated.

Moyes is probably being overly defensive in his first few games so he doesn't lose perhaps. Van Persie might start to get pissed off if they don't start being more creative. Looked a bit useless up there by himself recently. Only a couple of games, don't panic. Moyes out.
