What happened to that claim that Falcao is actually 29? Was it legit?

I'll leave this here - warning as it's a bit of a tearjerker - this Feyenoord fan died from cancer three days later :(

Guardian reporting Levy turned down a world record 100m (86m) bid for Bale from Madrid. Lunacy if true.

That can't be true surely? No one would turn down that amount of money.

As crazy as that money is, if one of the best teams in the world is willing to offer that much money for him this season, there's a good chance you're gonna want to hold on to that player if you possibly can.

He's certainly not going to go down in value.

I think there's every chance his value could drop by next summer.

I'd have to disagree, freak injury aside, his reputation has been cemented these past two seasons. He just has to have a reasonable season by his standards, bang in a few wonder goals and his value will stay the same.

Yeah, if he doesn't reach the heights of next season, his value could drop massively.

Spurs are in a similar position to Liverpool when they had Owen. They could've fetched 50 million for him in 2001/2002 but they decided to keep him. In the end he left for 8 million.

Spurs could improve their team if AvB was allowed access to the whole Bale tranfer funds.

    I'd take the money, personally.

    Hated, adored, never ignored.

Tottenham Hotspur Football Club aren't worth 100m let alone Bale.

If I was Madrid I'd send in the next bid at 70m. Bale's head has been turned and there's no way Spurs will keep him.

Only the same if Bale starts struggling with injuries.

Honestly, Spurs have a good team, they're just extremely poor up front for my money. Looking at who's "available" and at Spurs current finances I don't think that 80 million will allow spurs to replace the goals they'll lose from Bale. The players just aren't out there/available to Spurs.

I'd love them to sell Bale, but it seems as if money isn't the issue for Spurs, it's that there aren't the strikers out there that are available and willing to come to Spurs, especially if Bale leaves.

On the one hand, turning down a bid of 86m for any player (bar Messi and Ronaldo) is a bit ridiculous. It's very unlikely that RM or any other team would bid that high again next summer, unless Bale somehow becomes better than Messi next season.

On the other hand - there's only so many top quality players available this summer, and Spurs' lack of CL will make it hard for them to attract the very top talent anyway. So it makes sense for them to keep Bale so that he can help them qualify for the CL, and sell him next summer when the money can really be put to good use - even if it doesn't turn out to be as much as they've could've got for him this summer.

If he doesn't win POTY, plus an extra year gone on his contract, his value can EASILY decrease.

If anything. That's the more likely out come.

Pretty sure he will go this window now. If Levy has rejected 80m it's just because he probably thinks he can get more out of them, and probably can.

Hopefully we'll wrap up any other business first.

So the new deal is rumoured to be 50 million plus 2 players. All good saying that AVB will have the money to spend when more likely it will be a small fraction of that amount upfront and the rest direct debit for couple of years

AVB had Bale playing and performing at his best in the Hulk role only by the 2nd half of the season, if Bale stays another full season it will be a 30+ goal one.

Although given how rattled Real are looking over Barca signing Neymar, Levy could fleece them for 120 to 150 million euros.

There is no way they will pay that much for him surely? I find it hard to believe levy rejected a 80 million bid anyway.

Just how much more do you think it's possible to get? 86m is already too much.

Yeah, fair play. It takes some balls to play hardball at 86m.

Unless he REALLY wants to leave Spurs should hold onto Bale, spend a bit now and go for CL football. He's only 24 so his price will not drop and if they do get 4th they will have more choice when it comes to spending those millions.

I don't think I've ever seen rumours written about with such factual confidence. It boggles my brain that someone can put their ear to a concrete brick wall and come away with a stern confidence in what they heard (metaphor)

I'm a spurs fan, ofcourse I want to keep Bale, I believe all of this is absolute nonsense. I don't think he's worth 86 mil, I think he had one really good season. That said, if they have offered it and he wants it, let him go.

No credible source on any of this though. I reckon the Agent is being a dick, talking to real trying to get offers for his cut. Bale is probably liking the attention but will give spurs one more year?

Nobody fucking knows a thing though.

I know two things. Real Madrid have a history of signing the best players and Real Madrid have a history of spending a lot of money on them.
