In 6 of the 9 seasons since he joined United he has scored less than 15 league goals and in only 2 seasons has he scored more than 20.

In fairness though his overall record is very good. But in terms of goals, he is certainly replaceable. It is these goals combines with his other attributes such as playmaking and flexibility (which his is now moaning about) which make him a great player.

    I never said league goals.

He didn't even score 15 league goals last season so that would have been a pretty stupid comment.

He has however scored 15 + goals in each season since he joined united.

As per the statement in my post.

I really hope this is the start of UTD taking a big nose dive. Nothing would make me happier. Unless of course Liverpool replaced them at the top, cant see it though

Man U play Chelsea in the first few games don't they.

How fun it would be to see Rooney start for Chelsea and Welbeck leading the Man U attack as RVP is injured by Fellaini in training.

Selling Rooney turns United from a team with ridiculous attacking options to a team with only one world class striker who's turning 30 with a dubious injury record.

Don't think they should sell, or if they do, they should do it soon. If Higuain moves somewhere soon then the only striker in that same league left is Suarez...

Not sure how happy I'd be as a United fan if they sold and didn't buy. An Injury to RVP and you're left with Hernandez (decent) and Wellbeck (shit).

    Hernandez would start.

He has a ridiculous record against Chelsea.

    Hated, adored, never ignored.

I know what you mean mate - when Liverpool dropped to a mid table team it provided everyone with fuck loads of laughs.

United fans seem to have an awful lot of faith in RVP. His form was less than amazing in the second half of the season.
Sadly, even then it was merely "awesome" rather than amazing, and he's shown great form over the last 2-3 years.

Moyes doesn't need a "THEY SHOULD NEVER HAVE SOLD ROONEY" narrative, he's going to be under loads of pressure as it is.

Rooney will calm down and you can sell him in a few years, even disgruntled and petulant, he's still a good option to have and will still get a few goals.

What was his record last season, don't think it was great though don't remember him getting a lot of time and his game was verging on useless with the lack of creativity Man U showed last season. Hernandez that is.

According to Sky News: Man Utd Chief Executive Ed Woodward has left the club's tour of Australia early to carry out some urgent transfer business.

RVP's been injury free for a couple of years now. He averaged 3,227 minutes played the last two seasons, which means he was on the pitch 94% of the time.

Why can't I see this thread on the main forum timeline any more? :/

I've done something weird, haven't I? Like accidentally ignoring the thread? Didn't even know that was possible...

Well sure, but my main point is that if he gets injured, United aren't in a great position and RVP does have a history of that.

Not saying he's still fully injury prone but an aging striker with a history of injuries? There's a bit of a risk there.

Giggs was plagued by injuries in his earlier career but is still going strong. I'm not saying you are wrong, he is still a risk and Giggs is by far an exception (or robot).

    Time will tell.

    @mcmonkeyplc Certainly not intentionally.

checked - yes... Christ, no idea how that happened. Must've been a mobile phone finger slip. Sorry kalel.

    cheers.

I did start to think it slightly odd that all this transfer gossip was going round and yet no-one on EG saw fit to comment. I assumed you were all on holiday. :)

Arsenal fans in meltdown that it's Cesc. Rooney seems more likely imo but you never know.

I don't really understand why Chelsea want Rooney when they can pick from the absolute cream of world-class strikers. Not that I don't rate Rooney, but he's approaching damaged goods territory.

Interesting that Chelsea are just in for Rooney after Jose's comments. Wonder if Roman is finally stopping his crazy spending? Even though they could do with a few players.

The talked about names have all gone elsewhere it seems.

When I think of top strikers they are old or rooted at a top club.

They need to hype some new ones. Looks like there is a crop of young strikers who run fast and that isn't special.
