Being decent in the Eredivisie doesn't count for that much tbh.
I said he was awesome, not just decent. First time I ever saw him was when I was a guest and staying over at Sparta Prague. In a game of dross, I remember seeing him and thinking "he's bloody good with great potential". I was talking with the Fulham scout who was watching him at the time, so he was being watched then. Just too raw at the time.

Besides, he's better than what you've got imo. I'd have him over Bent any day of the week, but you've got JFK now, so no need to worry about any unknown foreigners anymore.
And yeah, being ok at the Eredivisie doesn't count for much these days. Suarez didn't work out too well (from a football ability point).

For Real Madrid he'll be spending a lot of time playing against outclassed teams with slightly shonky Spanish defences (it's a stereotype because there's some truth to it), but even though he'll be getting good service that's a really good haul of goals against a bunch of teams who will have mostly been trying to park the bus and play for a draw.

But I also think it is far to early to start saying Suarez is a guaranteed 25 goals a season striker. He had a good year last year no doubt. The year before he was basically nowhere near, and all the media / critics were saying he isn't a "natural out and out goalscorer".
Wasn't there someone in this very thread who was always criticising his goalscoring ability last season, and pointing to his stats as proof that he would never be prolific enough?

Interesting how things change in a year (not a dig at anyone btw, just goes to show how quickly things can change in football). Also, although he wasn't a top tier striker when he joined Liverpool, he was still highly-rated by many, and I suspect it was his World Cup shenanigans that made a few clubs lose interest.

How can people have not heard of Higuain? I guess some people don't pay any attention to non-English football, but that being the case, why be surprised when you haven't heard of players like this?

I'm all for a bit of "Man U in decline" chat, but that was pathetic.

Yea, some form of decline in comparsion to the Ferguson era is almost inevitable but I really hope Moyes has a decent season and then builds from there.

Anything less than CL qualification would be a massive failure but if he keeps us up in those spots I don't think we could be too disappointed.

Where does it say he was surprised? He was just asking if he was any good as he hadn't heard of him

kalel - I've heard of him, I didn't know he was a bona fide world star.

Still, don't let that get in the way of taking a lighthearted comment and using it as a weapon to do your usual willy waving thing in this thread. ;)

I kind of said everything I had to say on the subject in the initial post really. Was just an observation.

He's probably the best pure striker in the Spanish league (if you count Messi and Ronaldo as something else). Between him and Falcao.

If moyes can get everton within spitting distance of the CL every year, I dont think theres really anything to worry about on that front.

I was about to sacastically link his wikipedia page, but I was distracted by the mild hacking o the page which descibes him as a potato. So I'm gonna link it in a non-sarcastic fashion now:

Although weirdly, I kind of feel like the upheaval at those three clubs gives Arsenal an opportunity to sneak in there, especially with some quality purchases.

Although if I were to bet, it would be on Chelsea.
