That's what happens when Martin O Neill and Kenny D aren't in gainful employment.

A lot of the purchases so far have been cheap too, I can't help but feel there is a connection there.

You are a factory of sadness.

Yeah, most managers are blaming the 'English Tax', with Championship clubs quoting at least 6m for anyone showing the least bit of talent.

An English player who can do a stepover?

    15 MILLION!

    It's a fair point too, I think.

In Lambert's case I think it's probably a bit unfair to have a go at his not buying English as we bought heavily from the English lower leagues last year.

A good example is Helenius, Danish international, 22 and full of promise, he'd probably be over 10 million over here.

You are a factory of sadness.

The thing is, its a bit of a vicious cycle. Money doesnt flow downhill, so selling players is one of the best sources of income most clubs have.

You cant really blame them when a cash rich premier league club starts sniffing around and they ask for ALL THE MONEY.

Academy players arent developed for free and they want a return. We have whacked 10m on Will Hughes which has put loads of clubs off but conversely we are so serious about selling him to get a bit of wedge, we didnt play him for the last quarter of the season incase he got injured.

I agree, it's a difficult situation as it is the only option for the lower league clubs. I guess it just shouldn't surprise anyone that many clubs don't want to buy british when it mean spending that sort of money.

You are a factory of sadness.

Moyes isn't there until July. Might have something to do with it.

IIRC we offered about 7m for Denilson. He went for 21m.

    Those were the days.

7.6m + 2.5m is 10m though. They're probably just quoting the combined fees.

Not sure it's a bargain - it's probably what he's worth. You get six good months out of him, then he no longer likes the restaurants/gets homesick/gets cold/can't find the shoes he likes in the local shops/finds the altitude difficult to breathe in.

His high wages must be a factor. The low fee compensates for that.

So, what wonder striker are they replacing him with?

Early rumours are they may attempt to steal a march on Arsenal by replacing him with another Argentinian...

4th signing of the summer and we haven't got to pre-season yet. I like it.

There's no way that Mignolet has signed to warm the bench behind Reina, not in a World Cup year. Pepe is out the door. I hope he gets his move to Barcelona, as it's where he wants to finish his career I think.

I should be pleased about getting these signings in early, but having Mkhitaryan dangled in front of us so cruelly has ruined everything. If we don't get him now the whole transfer window has been a total failure.

    :-P
