While I don't think the letter is real, Ian Ayre is definitely pompous enough to write like that.

    *snort*

Speaking of TGSTEL, has he buggered off yet?
Seems like Arsenal have accepted every offer for him, all 5 of them. Some lowly teams in there, with the best bids from borussia Monchengladbach and Beskitas. This offers coming from someone neo rejected Schalke last season as "too low". Humbling times indeed.

Also made noise about now preferring to play all the time for a team "just below the top clubs" rather than on the bench for a top club.

Also, the idea of Chelsea buying Matic for 1.5mil, selling him in exchange for Luiz (who they're now willing to sell) and now wanting to buy him back yet are quoted 25mil (sold with no buy-back clause) just shows how much of a joke club they are, along with their "academy".

    Utter joke.

Hang on, that's just a rumour.

Can't believe I'm defending that club, but still.

I'm just going on the fact Matic himself kinda confirmed interest but said he'd rather play for another year rather than return back.

I'm surprised more clubs in England aren't jumping on this buyback thing, it is working out really well for Barcelona and Madrid.

    @The-Bodybuilder

According to some rumors Mata is on his way out. It's probably best to avoid the tabloids.

    SPURS IN FOR BARRY
Spurs have a problem when it comes to their midfield beyond Mousa Dembele and Sandro, for next in line is the slow Tom Huddlestone and the slooooooow Scott Parker.

With that in mind, they have a target in place to sort that problem out - Gareth Barry. Ahem.

The Daily Express reports that Barry could be part of a mini clearout when Manuel Pellegrini finally arrives at Manchester City, and Spurs will be waiting with a 4million bid for the midfielder.

And that's why I love tiki taka - when the opportunity is there, and it all comes together, it looks ace.

There was a ting on 365 yesterday saying that Cabaye would be perfect for Man Utd.

Whilst he probably isn't a "marquee" signing, I'd much rather spend 15 million on Cabaye than 23 on Fellaini. I think he'd fit in at all of the top 4 clubs.

He'd be an excellent signing for Arsenal or Spurs in particular.

Schurrle to Chelsea is done subject to medical. Replacement for Moses I'd think.

Cabaye isn't good enough for a top 4 side IMO. Spurs, maybe.

To be fair Chelsea are really light in young attacking midfielders.

    =_=

I reckon he still will, either him or Marin will get the squad spot. Doubt both will be kept.

It absolutely wouldn't hurt for them to loan De Bruyne out again, probably to a Premier League club and he can integrate into the squad when Lampard leaves.

He's only 21 for crying out loud.

I like Cabaye as a player, although not so keen on his sightly dirty/petulant side.

He's have been a good replacement for Modric a year ago, but between Dembele, Sigs, Dempsey and Holtby I'm not quite sure where he'd fit in now.

Yeah t's true, I'd probably envision something like Sandro and Cabaye with Dembele playing higher up the pitch. That's a strong midfield 3 right there.

I'll probably always consider Dempsey and Sig as second string players unfortunately.

Dempsey yes, total squad player. Suspect he'd be happy with that as well.

Sigs though is young and really showed some quality towards the end of the season. He's certainly not one to build the team around in that position, but I still think he has the potential to become quite important for us.

As for having three in the middle, yes, but that's only even going to work once we've got a proper bang-em-in striker. Which I hope to god we finally get this summer. We would have strolled into the top four with one last season.

Cabaye is too inconsistent to get into a a top 4 side imo. On his day he can be outstanding, but he's shit far too often.

Can't understand why Marin has barely featured for Chelsea yet. He's looked good when he's played.

On Cabaye being a bit inconsistent, it really seems to be a common theme with Newcastle. So many of their players look like world-beaters on their day, but don't bring it to enough games.

    Is it possible it's a managerial/coaching issue?

    @kalel

But we've tried so many managers and couches! :)

It think it may depend on the player in question. Cabaye is genuine quality suffering a duo in form. Sissoko? 3 game flash in the pan.

Neither of their last two managers has had any interest in the long or even medium term. One of them was a Chelsea old boy squeezing the last out of the old generation of players and the other was told as he came in that he was the interim manager, and was getting good results almost to spite Abramovich.
Neither of them had any incentive to develop the team for the future or bring youngsters through that weren't going to make an immediate impact.
