Yeah, a statement is happening at 2:30 UK time apparently.

The more I think about it, the more I want it to happen. Please, please, please.

Who knows? With Fergie stepping down, maybe Wenger will have an epiphany and not buy more crap.

The statement will probably be "Fergie has no plans to retire at the moment, please can you go away"

If he does go then Utd can expect a dose of reality. Fergie is an incredible manager that can never be replaced. David Moyes? Never won a thing.

Next season is going to be very interesting.

Make sure you get your camera set up to take a picture of yourself when Mourinho is annoucned as the next Utd manager, and Benitez signs a 5 year deal

@TheHammerite But Moyes has done very well with the lack of funds he has at Everton.

Can see Fergie staying 1 more year to try and win the CL again.

Remember what happened last time Fergie tried to retire?

He's a force of nature, and Utd will sag like bastards without him.

LB, you really are a massive geek.

Yea difference is he gave a years notice. This time it would be different as the club would have already known prior so everything would be in place.

If they do the Barca way and groom someone for a year that wouldnt shock me at all

His mistake then was giving a year's notice though. This might be short and sharp and will allow the club to find a successor and prepare for the new season of properly.

On the subject of announcements timed with NYSE, surely that'd only for something that could affect value.... Which surely wouldn't be an announcement that he's staying.

This is going to be me being dense, but... how is not giving a year's notice going to result in the club being better prepared?

    Public notice, or summat.

He's just being fitted out with cybernetic implants. He'll be around for another 80-90 years.

The players didn't really know how to deal with it I think. They were all over the place. Was quite odd.

Standard RNS announcements like this about key employees are made outside of hours so as to make it not a company's place to decide if news will affect value, and to leave that to the market.

Special One to come to Man U and bring Ronaldo with him. That would be nice.

The thing is, as reliant as United are on Fergie, its not like they are one of those clubs that suceeds purely because their manager is a force of nature on a hot streak.

Like when Curbs left charlton, they plummeted down the league. United are cash rich and well run from top to bottom. I think most well regarded managers would do well at united almost entirely thanks to the state fergie has left the club in.

Probably. But they will still spend and get players that'll help them win.

Utd's debt is nothing on Chelsea's, to be honest. And they can service it extremely comfortably.
