Agreed. The media are all questioning why they've sacked him it seems, whereas I'd have thought the obvious question would be 'why didn't you sack him sooner?'

I get why they employed him, as he's not had a terrible record in the past, not great, but possibly good enough for what they needed to achieve over the next two years. But it wasn't working out.

They are questioning it because, at this point of the season, what can a new manager do?

    Keep them up for one.

They have been on an awful run, have looked awful all season, and they've realised that they're in real trouble of going down. We've seen the 'new manager effect' countless times before. All they realistically need is 3 wins out of the next 8 games and they're safe. The morale boost of having someone new in, especially if the players had lost confidence in the old boss, can achieve that alone.

I think o Neil woud of kept them up. Didn't think they played awful yesterday.
Sunderland is still an attractive building job for managers, great stadium, and maybe a kitty if they keep em up

Roberto Di Matteo to come in and fluke survival for Sunderland, although it'll be tough for him to do it without Drogba.

Indeed. Read a stat yesterday that said he won 7 out of his first 10 games there, then only won 9 of the next 45.

Is there a reason why people hate him so much? Is it just backlash over how he's supposedly overrated by the media?

Ha, sure fans are looking forward to that lot.

On Saturday night bookmakers installed McClaren as the early favourite to move in at the Stadium of Light, with Hughes close behind him, followed by Di Matteo and Paolo Di Canio, the former West Ham striker and Swindon manager.

More than a bit unfair, IMO.

Leicester over-performed but were awful to watch, but still, he did well with what he had. Managing Celtic is easy. What else has he done?

Also Sunderland season tickets are up for renewal by this Friday at the latest. That means that bringing in a new manager this week may sell a few more season tickets if people feel like progress might be made.

I've heard that season ticket renewals were quite low. You'd expect them to be with no guaranteed PL next year, but a manager shake up, especially considering how boring they've become, might not be a bad thing financially for them.

Oh Gabby. Missed a great chance. Liverpool dominating which makes for horrible viewing.

Villa are only playing mid table opposition, bit they're playing some lovely stuff.

The ball for Agbonlahor's chance was a beauty.

    Hated, adored, never ignored.

    @EuroStalker
Wilshere, Walcott, Lennon, Ashley Young, Ox-Chamberlain...

Those are the ones I can think of.

Rooney used to take players on regularly, but he hasn't done it for years. Don't know wtf happened.
  • Deleted user 31 March 2013 14:09:19
I was sure Rooney would develop into the best player in the world.
    Gutted.
  • Deleted user 31 March 2013 14:10:57
Out pacing isn't really the same as dribbling.

So far, I prefer Baker to Clark at CB. He seems more assured there. Clark has a habit of getting too close to players and allowing them to spin him.

Get in Jordan! Good pass from Coutinho.
