Oh, that reminds me of my favourite rule - that to be played onside you have to have two players playing you on, not one.
I only realised this at the last World Cup when the linesman made an incredible call on a corner (I think Mexico were playing).

Needless to say I felt like a right thicko.
Pretty sure it was the Argentina v Mexico game. Tevez scored the goal I think, then they played replays on the big screens which almost caused riots.

so lemme get this straight if a keeper goes up for a corner, and the other team break, is this allowed to happen?

    ---------------------GOAL------------------------

    ------------------------DEFENDER-----------------
    -----ATTACKER------------------------------------
    -------------------------------------------------
    -------------------------------------------------
    --------------------HALFWAY LINE-----------------

If the attacker receives the ball, he is offside?!
    Yes :)
However if he was on or behind the halfway line and there was only one defender in the entire opposition half he'd be fine. Or if their entire team had gone up, and the attacker was just behind the halfway line and was the closest player to the goal.

How about the 'give it back' rule (the one that Kanu, hilariously, had never heard of)?

    ---------------------------------------------------------
    He totally called it

No no, that one was a different - and terrible - call! Tevez was genuinely a few yards offside but the linesman didn't give it. The fact it was such a terrible call is what nearly caused rioting.

Talking of obscure rules I'm pretty sure you are not allowed to play with out the full regulation kit.

Anyone know if this has changed? Because when Matri scored for Juventus the other week without his boot on, I saw not one comment pointing out that the goal shouldn't have stood.

    Brap, brap, old chap.

Its probably one of those 'referees discretion' things. As soon as the ref saw it, he should have blown up.

Having looked into it further turns out I was taught the wrong rules at school:

I think we managed to dig something pretty interesting out of this thread today even with no football on.

    Well done chaps

Preben Elkjśr scored for the Danish National team without a boot (a defender stepped on his boot and it was pulled off) - the talk back then was that all you absolutely had to wear was shorts...

You also have to wear underclothes such as long sleeve vests and cycle shorts that match the colour of your shirt and shorts.

That can't be the case. Look at the yellow cards for taking your top off.

Seems (according to that link) the rule is such that you do have to be wearing full regulation kit, but the unless the player has put himself in danger (put in a challenge with no boots on or something), he can play on with no boot until the next natural break in play.

What was the international game a few years ago where there was a goal where a defender off the pitch (over the goal line) still counted toward playing someone onside? (pretty sure they retro fitted the rule to fit the referee's decision)

Wasn't the yellow card for taking your shirt off thing introduced after Forlan ran around a Champions League game trying to work out the complex machinery of a football shirt?

Not leaving the field of play with the refs permission or something like that.

I feel it is only right, since it is the international break, that I should complain about the stupid international break and where the fuck is my football!

You are a factory of sadness.

    Reading the past few pages....
We really need football to come back.

Anywho, this is for those who think the EPPP ruling will be great for acamies and grassroot football around the country. Hint....it likely wont be.

I second this complaint. Especially as Scotland got tonked by bloody Wales.

So Michael Owen wants to be a football agent.

Judging form the fact he has consistently found clubs to pay him money in his retirement he must be fucking good at it.

If he attaches himself to the Arsenal squad he'll be raking it in.

So Adkins is set to take the Reading job, he could have done so much better than that if he had waited until the summer IMO.
