I think it's interesting because of the potential impact the event has on the royal family as an institution, though obviously the media circus surrounding it will become utterly boresom long before they actually tie the knot.
It'll be an important litmus test for royal popularity, in particular popularity surrounding William's generation of royals. While the Queen has, even in the darkest days of the whole Diana situation, enjoyed very high levels of public approval (far higher than any PM could hope for), her children do not. This might give the royal household a few hints on whether William would be a more sensible choice as the next monarch, and result in increased pressure on Charles to pass up the throne.
